We live in Cairns, which is only a 5.5-hour drive away from Townsville. We use the town for quick get aways and shopping not available in Cairns.
Plenty of good places to eat with lots of variety from drive through to quality restaurants.
Getting around is pretty easy if you have Google maps or similar. It's very spread out and there seems to be multiple ways to get to some destinations.

Loved the area with friendly people everywhere.
Loved the area with friendly people everywhere. Went to the Museum which my Great nephew really loved. All hands on. Went to Kirwan Bowling and had a great time with all our extended family.
Also went to the Tavern and had a wonderful meal which didn't cost too much.
Spent time on The Strand at the Waterpark and all the kids had a ball splashing around.

It is a nice city surrounded by some rainforest, farmland and bush. Lots to see and do. I loved the museums. I loved the botanical gardens; the hill overlooking Townsville is five minutes drive away from the hotel and you can drive or walk up it. The esplanade is worth the walk. Lots of places eat and drink along it.

Townsville is a relaxed, growing city with good restaurants in Palmer Street and along the Strand. Easy to get around and always peaceful on the water front. Magnetic Island is a quick ferry ride away.

I live in the area and I feel it has a lot to offer by way of sun and beaches or beautiful rain forest with gorgeous fresh clean cool sometimes cold running waters at your fingertips to enjoy . Shopping and night life at bars cinema cafe restaurants or theatre, your choice .
Also NRL football stadium
Great location in a quieter part of Townsville, yet very close to the strand and Palmer Street (only a few minutes drive). Our apartment had stunning views of the water and a very spacious balcony. It was the perfect size for a family of three. We will definitely be staying here again! Love the bonus of a cafe downstairs for a nice coffee in the morning. The best part was the value for money. It was one of the cheapest accommodation we could find in Townsville that offered two bedrooms
Hotel was in good location for the activities we came to Townsville to do. Handy havig a good food/beverage area close by in City Lane and very handy to a good chemist and Woolworths. Bus and taxi services were nearby and not too expensive to get a taxi to and from the airport. Easy walk to The Strand precinct and easy to spend a day wandering and reading the history as well as enjoying the views and great eateries along the way.
We were in Townsville for a week and was looking for somewhere central and comfortable. Location is great. But the room hasn’t had anything done since is was built. TV is 32 inch, the beds are hard as and all you feel is the springs. The kitchen cutlery was missing somethings and the microwave was missing a turn table. The whole room just felt really rundown and one cares how it is presented
I am an old bugger who had not been to Townsville for 38 years and expected the hotel to be more central to places for meals etc. I also assumed from your ads that there was a hotel lounge and bar facilities.
However as I told the young lady a the desk it was more that I felt lonely as it was the first time away by myself since widowed.
We stayed here for one night while traveling through Townsville and were pleasantly surprised by how great this place was. The apartment was spacious and comfortable. The property provided an extra mattress for our youngest child. The best were comfortable and it was close to Palmer street which was a lovely walk in the evening.
Thankful that we we were able to check in earlier, the same type of room was given except that it was disability friendly. The staff was very professional and helpful. Returning to Townsville later in the year and will stay at Grand Hotel and Apartments again. You will never go wrong with this place.
The hotel was located in just the right spot.
On the corner of Palmer Street with all of its restaurants, bars and hangouts.
In the other direction a 450 metre walk will get you into the heart of the city with access to The Strand.
There are many other things we liked as well.
What a magnificent location. We spent 11 days in Townsville and loved every minute of it. Aquarius is in a fantastic location with huge views both to Magnetic Island and beyond and to Castle Hill. We will definately come back to the Aquarius on the Strand.
Friendly and helpful staff. Pool area, upstairs and downstairs eating area's.
Central location in Townsville CBD. We walked most places like the Strand, around the city, Sealink to catch the ferry to Magnetic Island.
Best location on the strand, quiet, clean, walking distance to Townsville’s best. The best place to stay yet the cheapest to pay. The only place I stay when in Townsville. Love their restaurant for breakfast.
Location right on the Strand was excellent, close to lots of cafes and bars and just a short walk to the supermarket for supplies. The view from the room was perfect - straight across to Magnetic Island 😍
Very spacious unit, 2 bathrooms and huge balcony. Swimming pool great with a shelter area, good gym, sauna and parking facilities. Washing machine and drier. Cafe just outside the hotel.
The location is excellent being that it is on Palmer street where a majority of the restaurants are in Townsville and only a short walk to city lane on Flinders street
Good price. Great location. Located behind the Vale Hotel & Dan Murphys. Close to servo, library, Stockland Shopping Centre, Maccas. Not far from hospital too
It’s very spacious and the location is amazing. Right on the Strand. The place is very clean and tidy. It has everything we needed like kitchen and cookware.
Self contained spacious apartment. Comfy large lounge. Great size outside area with fantastic views. Good walking distance to The Strand and Flinders Street.
