Due to afternoon sun the room was warm and remained very comfortable in the cold weather due to double glazing. We left something in the room and only realised a couple of days later. It had been located and they held it for a family member to connect.

The bed was comfy, the room was very clean and the separate private bathroom was great as well. Good sized room and fantastic sound-proofing...I could hardly hear the pub underneath at night. Lovely friendly staff and great food in the pub. Also a good location, I could walk to other restaurants and parks and shops as needed. Pretty easy to get there and street parking available if you can't get into the small car park.

Would recommend the gorge & du cane brewery.

Launceston is a relaxing town with plenty of well...
Launceston is a relaxing town with plenty of well preserved early Australian colonial era buildings which gives it a nice old feel like Ballarat or inner Sydney.
In comparison,
Melbourne has largely replaced its 1850's gold rush architecture and slower pace of life from the 1800's with hideous steel and glass towers and grid lock traffic.
Launceston makes a good base for before and after completing the challenging Overland Track hike in Alpine Tasmania. It is a pleasant place to walk around for half a day.
We found some places to eat
with acceptable/ affordable versions of food from Singapore and other
East Asian restaurants( albeit tailored to the largely white Anglo local population's palates ).
You won't get an authentic Japanese Soba Noodles meal !!.So trust me on this one, because I know.
In Launceston on weekdays trekkers can easily obtain necessary outdoor gear supplies , such as: attire; freeze dried meals ;stove fuel and spirit burners( The latter two items are banned on airlines) for multi day independent bushwalking and hiking in Alpine Tasmania .
The airport is a 30 minute taxi ride from the town centre.

Being a city person, Launceston was a lot quieter than expected. There aren't many shops/restaurants around but enough.
If you are into nature, hiking and camping, then Launceston and its surroundings is the perfect goldmine. We loved Cradle Mountain and the endless hikes it offered.
There are many quaint little coastal towns to explore too up north.

Launceston is a graceful historic small city, lovely parks and river walks. Many interesting shops and plenty of dining options.

Surrounded by beautiful villages full of charm and history
Compares other hotels we've stayed in Launceston, Windarra gave us the home feel, home neighbourhood feel & parking right in front of the house also feels like we're at home.
Deco in the room is lovely.
Our room, #5 - many windows & the view from window & the balcony is beautiful.
Gordon is so friendly & helpful.
Simple English breakfast is included.
Note: This is a big villa with different rooms in it, each booking books 1 room (not the whole house)
I booked the Hideaway for a trip with my 10 year old son to watch the Hawks and see a little of Launceston. The hotel was a cost effective option that was in a great location and within walking distance to the UTAS stadium and the main central area . The room was clean, tidy with digital entry and express checkout, bathroom was good (water temp took time to stabilise).
I would recommend and stay again with easy, generous parking.
Great location for exploring Launceston - 5 min walk and you are in the CBD. Room is not the most modern decor wise but was very clean, had everything we needed and was a good size. Also had the best shower of all our accommodation doe our 2 week holiday! The continental breakfast was good (loved the range of fresh fruit available each day) and finally, the staff were amazing and could not be more helpful.
WOWWWW..this was like combination of old heritage homes in Indian village plus Hogwarts in Harry Potter!! Bonus was a windmill in the campus. Excellent rooms, super comfy. Amazing big bathrooms. Ever helpful staff..they guided us so well. hardly 5 block walkable to the downtown Launceston . Hotel is very close to Cataract Gorge "Estuary" which you can walk .
Very professional staff introducing things needed for the stay. Free car park. Walking distance (15 min) from city centre, Great, delicious and very resonable cafe and pasta places nearby. Interesting history of the hotel (ex Launceston General). Extremely value for money based on all the above.
Service was good, hotel is a great (clean, new and very comfortable beds) and central location in Launceston, some free parking available on site and if it full then their is public parking area next door (cost during the day). The property also has a clothes washing machine room for guest use.
The location is great central to the town, food and transport and the monkeys are just at the end of the road. They are so cute. Launceston and its surrounds have so much to offer and the HGC is a perfect base to see them all. And the hotel's restraunt is wonderful.
It was clean , comfortable and functional. I did prefer the Colonial Hotel in Launceston on the in bound leg of the journey .The staff booked a taxi to the airport for us on request. That was helpful. It was near the park and shops/ restaurants.
Great location, wonderful staff, clean, great services and restaurants.
I was able to store some luggage at the hotel while I was on an Intrepid Tour.
I was very confident that it was in a safe place.
fabulous hotel right in the centrew of launceston. lovely staff. nice bar and restaurant. great room with a very comfy bed and dreamy pillows. lovely view. we were very happy with our stay. 5 star.
The room was larger than I expected and spotlessly clean. The hotel was almost full but still very quiet and relaxing. The duty manager was particularly helpful.
I love this hotel. Very good value for money, great staff, great location, and breakfast included. Room is very comfortable. This is my go to hotel in Launceston.
