Such a lovely little place! Great hot tub, really welcoming hosts, lovely wine tasting - and a great dog! We had the whole site to ourselves once the cellar door had closed for the day, and left feeling super relaxed :)

We arrived as weary travelers after 26 hours of flying and found ourselves in stunning and peaceful surroundings at Black Estate and received a very warm welcome by Pen and her team. The room is a perfect little hideaway in the vineyard and we were able to buy a delicious homemade lasagne to eat in our room while we rested and drank some of their delicious wines. We had the place to ourselves after dark which was bliss. We had bikes to explore the area.

Self check-in so we did not encounter any staff members, but instructions were emailed to us and super clear. Beautiful location and even more beautiful accomodations -- we stayed at the 2 bedroom Riesling Room, and it was so clean and very modern. One of the nicest places we stayed in NZ. Bathrooms were pristine. A nice spread of self serve breakfast items, cheese, and wine were also upon arrival. Small kitchenette was thoughtfully well equipped. Even though NZ has a ton of sandflies and mosquitos, it felt like this place had none! Super comfortable, spacious, and modern. Bedding and sheets were top notch. Bathtub in the 2 bedroom option was sublime. Highly recommend.

We stayed at the Culverden Motel as the property was close to an event we were attending on a high country station the next day.The motel is an older style property on the main road but the traffic does ease overnight somewhat so we weren’t troubled by noise.Unit was exceptionally clean.There is a large step up/down to the shower which I guess could be an issue for anyone with any mobility issues at all. Staff were very pleasant.
