The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint.
However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good.
As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work.
Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments.
Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

Just the right location.
Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.
The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.
Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara.
The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.
This is a small intimate guesthouse right on the edge of the ocean. You will feel like this is your home. The owner and manager went out of their way to assist in so many ways. We were in Kalutara on a film shoot and needed a driver and a translator -- the owner found great people for us! I also had an injury -- the manager, Lucky, and another guy carried me off the beach and arranged for an ambulance. They were there for us - above and beyond the norm -- and helped us in so many kind ways. I felt they really cared; like family.
Staff was so friendly, on time tea, on time breakfast.
Very reasonable amount charged for the breakfast (SL) String Hoppers served with Coconut sambol + Dhal curry more than enough for a family with just one year old baby
Ocean view is phenomenal, night ocean sound and wind get you an adventures feeling.
A/C worked smoothly no sound, water pressure and hot water definitely worth 10/10 scores.
Very clean, and friendly place, classical Sri Lankan environment
We had very pleasant stay. Great location, helpfull staff and very nice owner that even gave us his number in case anything goes wrong on oir trip. Which we actually needed the very day we left the hotel and he helped us

Thanks to the friendly restaurant services provided by the hotel. Not only were the dining options delicious, but the level of attentiveness and care we received from the restaurant staff was outstanding. Ms Ruwanthika, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure our dining experiences were pleasant and memorable.
It was absolutely amazing! We arrived very late but the host Ani waited for us. We extended another two nights and had a great start in Sri Lanka. Ani is super cute and prepared us a beautiful breakfast in the morning. Location right next to the beach with not too many tourists around.
Excellent location and venue. Beautiful rooms and accomodation. The separate adult swimming pool was a nice place for relaxarion, and most importantly the friendly staff were at our full disposal. Xmas setting at dinner with orchestra was great!
Great food and selection.
Room was big with great views and very clean. Power points for all types of plugs was useful.

The hotel and staff were very welcoming and helpful. All staff in various areas of the hotel were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and service given with great dedication. Also very child friendly and attentive
Has 2 separate pools. Large one is mostly for kids and thats awesome.
Dinner and lunch buffet are great. Favourite ones are scrambled egg, omlett, crab curry and deviled beef curry.
Rooms are comfortable and clean.
Excellent services provided by all staff members. We had an upgrade of the room which was a pleasant surprise. Hotel it self if old but very well maintained and has so much of space which is a rarity these days.
this hotel is situated on a rubber estate and also on the main road ( Kalutara Matugama Highway road ).I went from Kotttawa it took 20 minutes to the hotel full trip. This Hotel is a good place for couples.
I liked the private access to the beach and the cleanliness of the beach. Rooms were up to the standard too. Staff were also doing their best to support guests!
The hotel was ideal for a family, plenty for the kids to do and the pool was huge! The hotel had some of the best food we had during our time in Sri Lanka.
