Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous.
Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous. The train trip was wonderful. The waterfalls all around are lovely. The stores in town were fun.
But we were surprised by how many tourists there were, how crowded and overdeveloped. The giant outdoor screens, the competing loud music, the catering to western travelers made it less fun than other areas of Sri Lanka.

Nice little town, you can do some nice outdoor activity such as trekking to little Adam’s pick and zip line, see the waterfall, the famous nine arch bridge, enjoy some good meals in one of the restaurants on the main road.
Rice&curry at the Chill cafè is very good, the dream cafe has an international cuisine so I had a chicken wrap also really good, instead at The Barn I had a really good overnight oat breakfast.
You can also take a cooking class some restaurants offer this activity three times a day 11am, 4pm and 7pm or you can also enjoy a yoga class usually you don’t need to book classes are at 8 am or 4 pm.
In my opinion one night and a full day is enough to visit the main things.

This is such a nice town, good and plenty of food options. Lots of bars and the surrounding is very beautiful. You get spoiled here with waterfalls, hikes and so much greenery.
Loved arriving here with the train, meeting other travellers and eating plenty of delicious food :)
Will come back soon, next time for longer because there is so much more to see.

Ella is a chilled laid back kind of place like Bali used to be, However the TukTuk Mafia are despicable rude, price gouging and trying to rip off every tourist. If you go to Ella take your own transport. You can rent your own TukTuks and Scooters. I encourage people to use Uber andPickme it works in Colombo. Honest TukTuk drivers are bullied in Ella As well as other tourist hubs in Sri Lanka.

Good starting place for visiting the mountain area of the country. Downtown noisy and inundated with tourists. Those who want a quieter but equally stunning settling but somewhat more limited in amenities may do better staying in a smaller and nearby setting. If you are taking the amazing train ride, do so ‘backwards’ and start in Ella area.
I had an amazing stay at Morning Dew Hotel in Ella, Sri Lanka! The location was perfect, and the service was top-notch. The staff, especially Chamidu, were incredibly friendly and professional, making my experience even more enjoyable. The proximity to the road for Ella Rock hiking was very convenient, and the views from the pool were simply breathtaking. Plus, the delicious breakfast added an extra touch of delight to my mornings. I highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful and memorable stay in Ella.
While we didn’t have the best weather in Ella, it was worth coming for the view from the hotel and the staff’s hospitality alone. We had the smaller room with no view but they let us use the kitchen and the top floor balcony which had the BEST view. They also did our laundry for a good price (cheaper than in town). The breakfasts were also great. You can walk to Ella main street in maybe 10-15 minutes from the hotel. Nine arches bridge and little Adam’s peak are also within a reasonable distance.

I recently stayed at Ella view hotel and I have to say, it was an amazing experience. The service was superb, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the views from the hotel were simply breathtaking. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the city center, so it was easy to explore the area and try out some of the local restaurants.
I especially loved spending time on the balcony, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
I think we had one of the most delicious breakfasts so far! The host asked what we love and made us Sri Lankan fusion breakfast which was super delicious. It is a home stay and not a boutique hotel. The room is located in a house on the hill with many steps. however the host and her sister are very welcoming and sweet. we were the only guests and had a big terrace with table and daybed for ourselves. The place has hot water, clean sheets, delicious breakfast.
You CANNOT beat this view!!! This hotel, while under construction, was an incredible stay for us! The view from your bedroom of Ella Rock is a dream! The brothers that run this hotel, and that are working hard on the renovations, are incredibly sweet and accommodating! Breakfast was delicious. It is also nestled away from the bustle of Ella town, while being a 10 minute (at maximum) from town center. Would stay here again if we ever venture back to Ella!
Stunning view, amazing hosts and great breakfast! 5 mins by Tuk tuk from the Main Street in Ella where all the restaurants and shops are located. A great point to start all your experiences while in Ella. The host and the entire family are a gem and I highly recommend a dinner there! You can ask to cook with the mum and learn the real Sri Lanka cuisine! Room clean , hot water and comfortable bed. Do not expect anything luxury but a REAL experience!
We had a great stay at Morning Dew Hotel in Ella. The hotel is located on the top of a hill with a stunning 360 degree view from the roof (pool and bar also on the roof ☺️) very friendly staff who did their best to make our stay very remarkable! The buffet for breakfast is very varied and delicious. We had a room on the top floor with a great view, very spacious and modern design.

2-3 hours walk to Ella Rock. there are mich ways up with wonderful little cottages with service along the hole way include on the top. The hotel is very well and clean. Wifi is also OK. The owner speaks really English and is helpful.
