Abbeyview House, hotel in Rathowen

Situated in Abbeyshrule, Abbeyview House offers accommodation with free WiFi and flat-screen TV, as well as a shared lounge and a garden.

I wanted to do a little cycling alongside the canal. The village nearby has been upgraded recently and now represents some of the best of the midlands of Ireland. The canal bridle path is really lovely for walking or cycling. The renovation of the old miller's house (-subsequently a Garda (police) station) was absolutely outstanding. Very sympathetic and the best police station that I have slept in!

Rathowen is a small village a couple kilometers north of Ballinilack, which is actually where the Riverview B&B that we stayed in is located. Most shops seemed to be closed the two days we were there. There is a large Pub/Restaurant, lovely old building. Food was good, a bit high priced, however, service at the bar was terrible. Five persons behind the bar, yet not one even acknowledged our presence until we waved them down 5 minutes later. Then, they did not remove the prior customer's leftover plates and glasses until I moved them myself.
