Large modern rooms attached to a pub with an excellent restaurant highly recommended as a base for a visit to the Derbyshire Dales be sure to book if you wish to eat in the restaurant as it is justifiably very popular and provides a very good breakfast.

We booked a double room with a great river view. I loved that it was a generous size, with two easy chairs. After a long day out, it was bliss to be able to enjoy a cuppa whilst taking in the view.
The staff were really helpful in meeting our request for a 7:30 breakfast one morning - greatly appreciated. The quality of breakfast was good, with friendly service.
The hotel does offer free car parking nearby, which we were directed to after checking in.

Our stay at The Family Tree was perfect. The bed was so comfortable and the room and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. There were so many lovely touches, like the bubble bath and cotton wool in the bathroom, and the wooden folder of information about the accommodation and local facilities. The staff were pleasant and efficient, a reflection of the good training and treatment they receive from the owners, I'm sure. The breakfast was another highlight. The selection, presentation and quality was one of the best we've ever had. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and we intend to go back ourselves.

Wirksworth is a lovely little market town with quirky shops.
Wirksworth is a lovely little market town with quirky shops. Stoney Wood is a lovely walk and has the Star Disc which is worth a visit. It is in easy access of Matlock, Heights of Abraham, Buxton, Bakewell and the various trails. We have been on the Monsall Trail and Tissington Trails and we also visited Peak Cavern (very busy) and Thor's cave which is a steep walk but the views are amazing.
