The George In Rye, hotel in Winchelsea

This hideaway is located in the centre of Rye and offers well-designed rooms, local wines and a restaurant menu infused with Mediterranean zest.

We loved everything about our stay at The George. The Staff went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. Our room was just incredible - very comfy bed, lovely deep bath, blackout curtains etc. Very atmospheric. And our dinner and breakfast were delicious. But really it's the staff who make it so lovely - they were all, without exception, fantastic.

The question as put means our answer is rather misleading.

The question as put means our answer is rather misleading. We did not have time to explore Winchelsea as we would have liked, but spent much of our time in Rye, a quarter-hour drive away and with enough to keep us busy ind interested for two days. We only scratched the surface of the possibilities of the wider area. In Rye, park as soon as you can in any of the car-parks at the foot of the hill and walk. There is masses to see, but the one-way system within the town can be a nightmare to the unwary.

Winchelsea beach is a remote and beautiful coastline, perfect for November stormy weather. 20 mins away from Rye nature reserve and Petts Level cliffs. This is not in Winchelsea itself, but Winchelsea beach.

Beautiful, peaceful, historic town with strong local community feel, excellent to combine with exploring the rest of the area (Rye, Dungeness etc). Lovely place to spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the view over the surrounding countryside. Schedule visit with a date the cellar tours are on- we only found out about these after we visited!

It was the most relaxing, peaceful and homely hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The room was a good size not huge but not tiny a good decent sized double bed with really comfy fluffy pillows and quilt. More than enough towels normally you get one towel each we had about three or four which is perfect! A nice functioning radiator to keep you warm at night. The view from our room was beautiful it looked out on a lovely landscape with little rabbits and streams. The room felt so relaxing because it didn’t feel like a hotel the layout made it so easy to feel at home. The staff in the lobby were amazing even when it was busy they were so attentive and made sure we were having a good night and our food was good the beach is about a 10 minute or so drive and there is a little town near by called Rye which is lovely cobble stones and lots of little shops and cafes to pop in to. I can’t say a bad word about this place other than the fact we only got one night we can’t wait to go back for another weekend away.

A really lovely place , the suite we had was excellent, could not have asked for more. Very friendly staff, the breakfast was excellent .We have stayed here numerous times, never been disappointed. If you want a lovely stay in Winchelsea this is the place. Times have been hard for these establishments so we need to support them. . The suites have all been refurbished. To a very high standard.

Our hosts were friendly and welcoming. We had a bedroom, bathroom and living room with a TV to our selves. The bed was comfortable and our bedroom was tastefully decorated. Breakfast was the continental variety, with plenty of fruit and croissants. The rooms were scrupulously clean. The Gem made a great place to set up base and explore. We visited Rye, the nature reserve and Winchelsea.

Caroline was extremely welcoming and helpful, even before we arrived The apartment was placed in a beautiful setting, very spacious and lovely decor. There was a large, garden and wood fired hot tub. Location was great for visiting Rye and Hastings and Winchelsea beach was only a few minutes drive. Would highly recommend and look forward to staying again.

Winchelsea is a beautiful small town with many lovely buildings. It looks idyllic. The church is the central focus of the town and is a must to visit. It is a stones throw from Rye and the nature reserve. There is a glorious walk from the house along the Military Canal to the sea and various paths around the Pett level.

Caravan was clean, spacious and equipped with everything we needed. We didn’t use any of the park facilities, but there was a fish and chip shop and a Co-Op next to the entrance. Pebbly beach nearby and Camber Sands only 20mins away.

Quaint little cottage but with all mod cons. Winchelsea Town is just picture perfect. It has a very good village shop and pub literally just steps away. We had a lovely few days. Plenty to see in the area. Highly recommend it.
