Excellent quality breakfast (best sausages ever!), obliging staff regarding our other food requirements, friendly and efficient service.
At Charlton we appreciate what sits at the very heart of the premium hotel experience: a perfect night's sleep.

It's a charming Country House building, with contemporary interiors rather than stuffy traditional furnishings. It feels lived-in rather than boutique luxe which is perfect - it invites you to relax, dress informally and have fun. The staff are super-friendly and looked after us really well.

Both my evening meal and breakfast were delicious. Wayne went out of his way pre-visit and during my stay to make me feel welcome. Will definitely stay here again if business brings me into this area of the UK.

Tired old hotel with rooms with peeling paint, broken cupboards and windows and dirty curtains. Had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to attic room that was being used by the construction staff renovating the spa. Food was limited choice and of porr quality for the money that was being asked and charged. No phone in the room so had to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs to get any service. Issues not addressed and had to check out early, extremely poor hospitality. Do not tale bookings if you cannot provide a basic level of service.

Shelton Mallet seems to be a good representation of smaller, rural communities in Southern England. Beautiful surrounding countryside and closeness to some additional cities of interest such as Wells and Glastonbury. Several good restaurants were recommended by the owners of the inn. Roads in the town can be a bit tight.

It is in a good spot for touring around Dorset etc. Very quiet little town with not much to do. There is a Greek restaurant and a cafe that opens during the day. The Swan is one of the nicest pubs.

The Bath and West ground is literally just a mile away.
The Bath and West ground is literally just a mile away. Local facilities for shopping are also close by. If the weather is good there are beautiful walks and things to do. Where this is, you would definitely need a car to make the most of the surrounding area.

We loved visiting Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury town and the Tor, Wells and Hauser & Wirth Somerset, which were all just short drives away. We also walked into Shepton Mallet one evening and had a great time watching live music at the Art Bank Cafe. The cottage itself was really lovely and characterful, and equipt with everything you need. We enjoyed going back there after a day of exploring to cook a meal and relax infront of the fire with a movie. Would definitely stay again!
Not luxury but absolutely perfect. Very clean and cosy cottage. The host was lovely and very welcoming. The location is very quiet and sort of in the middle of nowhere. We used the bbq both nights. We didn't use the wifi so cannot comment. There is a little area in the garden overlooking the field where we had breakfast in the mornings. The kitchen and living room area was a great size, lots of space to do stuff. Just perfect.
I thought the building was amazing and had both age and the modern necessities needed for a perfect stay.
The room foe the price beat the hotels in the same bracket considerably. We had both breakfast and dinner there and i must say we have no complaints on either especially the dinner which was lovely. We will 100% be back due to the amount of family activities in the area and we have found somewhere lovely to stay.
We have stayed in the Shrubbery before. We understand it is under new ownership. In some areas the hotel needs some maintenance, but I am sure the new owners will be working towards this. We like the hotel.
Very spacious modern apartment in a fantastic country pub. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great food and drink in the pub. Much better than staying in some corporate hotel.
