Set in a traditional house dating from 1900, The Gannet Inn is located in Carbis Bay, just an 8-minute walk from a sandy beach. It features a bar with a games room and Sky Sports channels.

Perfect choice of breakfast and evening meal. All staff gave very friendly, calm service, and sought to meet our need for less stairs: gave us room on the lower floor when it became available - to cater for my partner's arthritic hip. Enjoyed the view of the sea, Very roomy, extremely comfortable bed, with lots of pillows and cushions, No hassle to leave by 10 am! Many thanks for three very comfortable nights

There’s access to lots of coves and beaches but in the August heatwave we loved the cooler harbours at Porthleven and Mousehole (where the carnival was in full swing). Sadly St Ives was too packed to park as where Hayle and Carbis Bay, they seemed lovely but we’d stick to the South coast if we went again. Thankfully we’d hired a car (with aircon) so we really got about a bit. Try out the Coach and Horses just across the road for value for money whilst the aptly titled Packet Inn was a bit more ‘up market’. KC Fish and Chips across the road was also good. If you’re so inclined the coastal path runs nearby and you can walk down to Kenneggy Cove. Alternatively hop in the car and St Michael’s Mount and the beach are a few minutes drive.

Great area for a peaceful retreat or for footpath walks. Ideal for touring Cornwall and for trips to Scilly Isles. Close to the Minack outdoor theatre and to St Michaels Mount. Choice of local pubs and restaurants. Good range of accommodation. Recommend Ennys apartments.

The only thing that put us off before booking was the location was described as Saint Hilary which is a small inland village whereas the location is actually Praa Sands which has a beautiful long beach and a popular spot for surfers. When I looked up the postcode I realised where it was and booked without hesitation. One added bonus was the appearance of Poppy the Pony whom we only saw once but is adorable.
