The Cross Keys Hotel, hotel in Llanymynech

This 18th-century, Grade II listed building is situated in the delightful village of Llanymynech, which straddles the border of Shropshire, England; and Powys, Wales.

The so-called 'dry breakfast' left outside the bedroom door at night was very generous and kept us going for much of the following day's hike. Don't expect emails (they don't do email) and don't expect them to answer the phone, but if you have a booking.com booking you will do just fine and will receive a warm welcome when you walk through the door of the pub. This place is ideal if you are doing the Offa's Dyke path, as it is right on the trail.

Chilton House, hotel in Llanymynech

Situated in Oswestry and only 42 km from Chester Racecourse, Chilton House features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking.

The breakfast was delicious and there was lots of choice. Every day, we were left a piece of homemade cake each in our room. The coffee and tea making facilities were excellent with fresh milk left in the mini fridge daily as well as a bottle of water each. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Rob and Melissa were extremely helpful giving us directions to the places we wanted to go and advising us on good places to eat and shop. The location was also good as it is on the border of Wales and other scenic places.

Willowdene shepherds hut, hotel in Llanymynech

Boasting garden views, Willowdene shepherds hut features accommodation with a garden and a patio, around 45 km from Chester Racecourse.

Location was perfect, the Shepherds Hut was exceptional, tastefully decorated, the separate hut for the shower and toilet was just as well maintained and all the added little touches added by the host Carrie made it a wonderful weekend. Loved the marshmallows and sticks provided for toasting on the firepit. The local pub 'The Original Ball' within walking distance with lovely food and friendly staff and customers.

Lakeside Eco Pod, hotel in Llanymynech

Lakeside Eco Pod is located in Oswestry, 16 km from Chirk Castle and 26 km from Erddig, in an area where hiking can be enjoyed.

I liked the remoteness but appreciate others may not. A great place to read, write or paint. Provision of a flask of hot water on arrival, with tea or coffee, was great and much appreciated. Lovely views.

Filthy room, sticky armchair, feeble shower, misleading website, no food despite website, misinformation about local facilities. As for the tips for a great review that Booking, com provides, my favourite places were those I saw in the rear-view mirror, I ate in a pub the hotel did not recommend since the one they did didn't do food either. It is easy to get around Llanymynech because there's nothing there, although it is mercifully easy not only to get into but also out of. What would I avoid on my next visit: the whole experience. And, although I have used Booking.com as my default hotel booker for at least a decade, I would - I will - be very much more careful about the hotels they list: they have a duty of care to their clients which, at least on this occasion, they absolutely failed to deliver.

The village itself doesn't have a lot to offer but it is well located to travel around locally (less than 45 minutes) to find some beautiful towns, waterfalls and activities to do. Lots of pubs to choose from (be warned not many serve food late on a Sunday). Travelling by road is as you as you would expect for Wales B roads connected by lots of single lane tracks but lots of passing places and all drivers we came across were considerate.

It was our first stop walking The Monty. It made the first day a bit long but there was no option. Good places to eat for such a small town. We ate in The Bedford Arms, Despite the heat they still put on a meal for us.

Funny little village at the bottom of a lovely hill on the Offa's Dyke and the Motgomery canal - now disused, but a haven for wildlife. Llanynynech has 3 pubs: The Bradford, the Dolphin and the Cross Keys, each with very different characters, clientele and offerings. Also has a Chinese and an Indian takeaway and a great little café for breakfast.

We had an excellent stay here on the way down from Conwy to Powys. Pre arrival the hosts were very helpful and booked us a table for dinner at the nearby Bradford Arms - which was excellent value . We received a warm welcome from Jamie upon our arrival at the hotel and were impressed with Sam's friendliness and enthusiasm the next morning over a delicious breakfast . We really enjoyed hearing about as well as seeing the progress they are making in restoring this gorgeous house back its former glory and we wish them every success!

Booked an overnight stay with 2 friends in the family room. Thought the price was really reasonable with breakfast included. The kitchen was out of action but this did not prove a problem as there were a couple of places within a short walking distance to get food. Breakfast was provided in a café just over the road. Landlord and locals were very welcoming. An old grade 2 listed hotel, so worn in places but we found beds clean and comfortable. Parking was available at back of hotel.

A very warm welcome from our host Jamie, even a bottle of beer each on arrival in the fridge in our room. The bedroom was ever so well appointed and the bed was just one of the best I have slept in a hotel. Breakfast was very good and we were invited to join the family to watch the ruby outside under a sun shade on a very warm day. Fantastic will book again if we are travelling around the area. Thanks to Jamie and family.

Barmaid very friendly and helpful and complimentary drink at the bar on arrival (that's a first for us and we've stayed in many places over the years!). Breakfast tray left outside room was fine - didn't eat it all in the morning so took the remainder with us for lunch as we resumed walking Offa's Dyke path for which the location is perfect, literally a few metres from the path as it passes through Llanymynech.

Beautiful house/hotel with an interesting history in a lovely location within easy walking distance of local amenities, pubs and restaurants and central to some excellent walks and scenic places. The hosts were lovely, very friendly and helpful, happy to sit and chat or leave you to yourself. I couldn't fault the breakfast. Plenty of it, well presented.
