St Leonards Hotel by Greene King Inns, hotel in Horton

This traditional country hotel is situated in beautiful woodland, on the edge of the New Forest. It has a large garden, a restaurant and free Wi-Fi, 20 minutes’ drive from Bournemouth.

It had easy access to a large carpark. Even though straight off the motorway it was surprisingly quiet.

The Tool Shed, hotel in Horton

Situated in Wimborne Minster and only 24 km from Salisbury Racecourse, The Tool Shed features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking.

We were looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing from which we could do a long walk, preferably ending in a great pub, and The Tool Shed was the most perfect fit. It was really well connected by car and has loads of public footpaths to take you on gorgeous trips through the countryside. We chose a 7 mile walk to the Sixpenny Brewery in Cranborne and it was glorious! We found wild garlic behind the church in Wimborne St Giles and saw hares and kingfishers along the way. The house itself is in an absolutely idyllic setting with gorgeous views (and an adorable dog). Tracey was so accommodating and communicative in the run up, but left us to enjoy the stay once we'd arrived which was perfect. The property was cosy but surprisingly spacious with a large bedroom and living/dining area. Really comfortable bed, and a good shower. The breakfast items and general essentials provided were great, and the galley kitchen had everything we needed. On our way home we popped by the Cranborne Chase cider shack (5mins drive) to get some delicious Dorset cider to take home as well - highly recommended.

We ate at the Inn as the menu suited us well. the quality of the food was very good. The location made for easy access to everywhere! As I was with a group of church bellringers, we had easy access to the local churches, so it was ideal! The number of rooms at the Inn would make it very good as a base for groups e.g. walkers ( or bellringers!) Also the Inn is well known and used by the locals
