Didn't go into the village this time, but there is a nice church, a village green, and the Crown Inn does an honest pint and a good dinner - don't miss the coins nailed to the fireplace in 1914 and 1939 by those local lads going off to fight in the world wars who didn't return to spend them...

Very quaint village. The Green is picturesque and quiet.
Very quaint village. The Green is picturesque and quiet. The Pub (the Crown), which is set back from the Green, was very welcoming, had a wide range of drinks available and the food very well cooked. It has a large outside area to relax within. There are plenty of fields to walk dogs and from the hills there are picturesque views to appreciate.
Bring a torch as there is little street lighting around the Green.
There is only a butcher's shop in Hartest and the nearest town with grocery shops is 4 miles away

A quiet, pretty village and with a great pub (The Crown). Lovely base for our trip, easy to travel to Bury St Edmunds, Laverton, Long Melford, etc. You do need a car though.
The Crown has a great menu which changes fortnightly.
