HOBLEY House Holiday, hotel in Craven Arms

HOBLEY House Holiday, a property with barbecue facilities, is set in Craven Arms, 23 km from Dolforwyn Castle, 27 km from Stokesay Castle, as well as 33 km from Wigmore Castle.

Absolutely beautiful location surrounded by fields and farm animals. Loved waking up to the sound of birds and sheep. The fire stove keeps the place very toasty. The farm breakfast is very nice, and the owner, Trevor, was lovely to chat to. Great get away for some peace and quiet. We loved the decor inside the place and the fairy lights. It was very relaxing to sit on the picnic bench and watch the sun rise in the morning. A couple of blankets were kindly provided to wrap up in when it's a bit colder out on the decking. Tea, coffee, and milk provided. We also enjoyed watching the lambs playing in the field. Prior to arriving, the owners were kind enough to send us specific directions and some ideas of what to do in the area on our visit.

Old Downton Lodge, hotel in Craven Arms

Set in an 18th-century farmhouse with views across the Shropshire countryside, Old Downton Lodge is just 15 minutes’ drive from Ludlow’s historic town centre and castle.

Very laid back in beautiful countryside, the dinner was very good and staff friendly and polite, deserves more bookings as it wasn’t anywhere near full but this could be time of the year & our stay was early in the week.

Lovely little property very comfortable well decorated and probably one of the cleanest places I’ve stayed at. well positioned for walks and very dog friendly with a large garden. Cosy and quiet one bed barn conversion., hotel in Craven Arms

Set 49 km from Telford International Centre, 10 km from Stokesay Castle and 22 km from Ludlow Castle, Cosy and quiet one bed barn conversion. Provides accommodation situated in Church Stretton.

Spent a couple of nights here to walk the Long Mynd and explore the area. Kirsty and Chris were very welcoming when I met them on the second day. They had provided a hamper of goodies too, which was a wonderful bonus! Very relaxing, with a VERY COMFY bed. Loads of amenities, including a utility room for muddy and wet gear to dry out in! The bathroom has underfloor heating, which feels very luxurious. Car parking is well thought out, so you're out of the way of the farm vehicles. Very friendly cats!

Harry Tuffin is a great store selling just about everything.

Harry Tuffin is a great store selling just about everything. The Discovery Centre is good. Didn't try any pubs in the town. Only saw one but didn't look that attractive, but I didn't try so I'm not qualified to say.

Craven Arms is an excellent jumping-off point for this part...

Craven Arms is an excellent jumping-off point for this part of Shropshire. It's within easy reach of Ludlow, Church Stretton, Bishops Castle, Clun and Much Wenlock. The supermarket - Tuffins - is independent and seems to have got lost on its way to France: is there anything it doesn't sell? The neighbouring towns are charming and are largely preserved from the 18th century and beyond. Walk down the high street of any of them and it feels like being part of a costume drama. Most of the shops in this part of the world are independent. There are remarkably few chains and this adds to the allure. It all feels slightly foreign - and inviting. Stuff to do? Excellent walking! The Long Mynd (above Church Stretton) has a steep climb and staggering views. One of the hidden glories of the UK. Ludlow Market is well worth visiting (as is the town). And there's a huge range of coffee shops and small eateries; craft shops and delis. The Poetry Pharmacy in Bishops Castle (check for opening times in advance) is fabulous: drink coffee and read Byron! It was reviewed by the Guardian and the owner has appeared on Radio 4.

Large village with several food amenities and Shropshire...

Large village with several food amenities and Shropshire Visitor Centre. However not particularly pretty compared with other villages and really more useful as a base for exploring the more interesting surrounding villages and landmarks.

The location is great, well off the beaten track so peace and quiet. Trevor is very welcoming and just left us to it. I went with a couple of pals for a walking weekend and a chill out. Log burner with and endless supply of free logs is perfect. Beds are comfy. If you want 5 star Hotel accommodation then look elsewhere but if you want a real life experience away from the rat race get yourself to the Eco lodge.

The location is great to explore the hills and countryside of Shropshire. Good shop in nearby Craven Arms. The view towards the hills from the front of the house is stunning and the small balcony with chairs and bistro table is a nice touch. Although there are footpaths nearby to dog walk, I'd recommend the walks from the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. There are good pubs in the area though none very close.

Very welcoming hosts and a good location, just outside the small town of Craven Arms, for exploring the Shropshire hills and villages. Fully equiped with absolutely everything that you could want and surprisingly spacious. Great private garden with seating and a hot tub area. An hourly direct bus service to Shrewsbury and Ludlow across the road. Would recommend and would book again.

Trevor was our host and he was incredibly kind, accommodating and helpful. He even helped us arrange a taxi back to Craven Arms train station. The accommodation was very unique, incredibly cosy and decorated adorably with many little touches and details. The views of the farm and the Shropshire countryside were amazing. The breakfast was delicious.

Extremely clean and quiet and excellent communication with the owner so everything ran smoothly. Good amount of space for the 2 of us and convenient for local supermarket. Easy parking outside. Craven Arms not the prettiest with few local facilities but well situated for access to lots of great places for walks and cycling.

It is a small cabin, as expected, being very tall the beds were a bit short. Not a complaint in any way. It’s a little cabin so it’s a small bed. Wonderful beautiful place to stay. Hosts were lovely. What a fantastic place to stay! Hopefully we will be back in the not too distant future.

The owners were lovely, very helpful and kind. It's a very comfortable place. We really enjoyed Craven Arms. It was quiet but yet not far from everything and being able to enjoy the garden or to walk from the door into town was very refreshing.

We liked the relaxed, friendly atmosphere - all the staff were so helpful and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean - better than any more expensive hotel that we've stayed in. Great location for exploring Shopshire. Ideal for walkers.
