Very helpful n smiley Owner n staff.. Food at breakfast was best cooked we have had for a long time, Dinner was ok but too plentiful … Cinderford is gateway to Symonds yat but otherwise is a down at heel town suffering under investment ! White Hart inn requires further Do Up if it hopes to attract more custom…

Cinderford is a small place but is within walking distance of the White Hart Inn, where we stayed. We found a couple of cafe's that are good for breakfast and lunch. Dinner in the evening can be an issue as places to eat are limited. The White Hart Inn do meals and while well priced are very big. There is an excellent curry house called Curry Leaf and a pub called The Golden Lion. The Golden lion has music on Friday and Saturday and the Nags Head has Music on Saturday. The only problem for us was that most places do not open until 6 or 7pm during the week. The White Hart Inn is usually open after 4pm since this is when guests can check in. I have no idea what time they open if no one needs to check in but seemed to be open for locals. You will need a car to get around but Cinderford is well located to main routes through the forest and access to the nearby towns. There are a number of bus services within the Forest of Dean but we are not sure how frequent they are. There is a map and information online although there can be issues with cell connection in areas of Cinderford.

Cinderford is ideal for visiting other places, we went to Ross on Wye, and lovely walks. We didn’t eat actually in at any restaurants in Cinderford as we only stayed two nights, except for fish and chips the first night, which was excellent.

The Pumping Station is a great place to stay which has access to the Forest from right outside the door. We ate at several places and particularly enjoyed The Miners Sling (Sling), the Red Hart (Blaisdon) and Ye Old Ferrie Inn (Symonds Yat). The milk direct from the farm at the Micheldean Milk Shed was terrific.

Cinderford itself has many food takeaways and some local interest - plaques, monuments, statues and a local cinema in the original building, which was great. It is central for a holiday in the Forest of Dean. The Forest of Dean has a great deal of varied interest set in the Forest; Go Ape, Lakes, Sculpture Trail, Puzzlewood, Canoeing, Views, Walks and Picnics. Coleford deli sell local cheese and wine and offer picnics to collect. There are many Castles in the area to visit, an Abbey and a Vinyard. I doubt you’ll be bored (though you might see a boar) and, despite not being on a walking holiday at all, I racked up 55 Km of walking over the week in incidental walking on easy paths that just happened.
