FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

The museum was great and we look forward to seeing more exhibits when the renovations are complete. We ate at Marco's restaurant which was very delicious. We enjoyed seeing all the photos of Marco which were taken by the late photographer, Bob Carlos Clarke. My wife, Pat, gave Bob the Polaroid film for them for the book White Heat.

We were able to walk to the city centre and enjoy the German Christmas market and Bull Ring shopping centre. I'm sure Birmingham has loads more to offer but we only had a few hours. We had booked tickets to see Faithless at the O2 Academy. Both the venue and the band were excellent.

We came for daytrips to the Black Country Living Museum and Warwick Castle so we didn't have a lot of time in Birmingham itself and spent most of the time in and around the Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres. We did visit Victoria Square but the whole area was preparing for the Frankfurt German Market so many of the grand open spaces were full. I would have liked to have seen some of the parks and museums but we didn't have the time. The local people were very friendly and approachable. As the 2nd biggest city in the UK it is not particularly cheap but the Wetherspoons in New Street Station was excellent value for money and we managed to get seats in the Odeon cinema for £5 each when bought online. There are also extensive internal and external markets where bargains can be found.

The hotel was in a good location for the city centre. Staff were friendly and always helped if I had a problem. Although there was no coffee faciilities in the rooms there was an option to pay a liittle more to buy at reception. There was a continental style breakfast every morning included in price. Over all I enjoyed my stay at the Ibis and when I am in Birmingham again I will be staying here. Thanks again to all the staff at the Ibis Budget. ++++

The Park Regis is a very nice hotel in a good location for Birmingham city centre. The decor is plush and up-to-date and the rooms are a good size with large beds. The staff on reception were very nice and checked us in relatively quickly and gave us rooms next to each other. All in all that is what I expect from a hotel of this calibre.

The property was well kept clean and tidy. It was ideal for our over night stay and a lot cheaper the paying for individual hotel rooms. It’s only a 15 minute walk to the city centre and easy to find I would stay there again when next visiting Birmingham.
