We are bikers and off street parking is always something we look for when choosing places to stay. The hotel had an excellent courtyard at the rear. As a bonus our rooms were actually little chalets which were also in the courtyard, so our bikes were practically right outside our door.
The chalets have the bedrooms on a mezzanine floor, meaning the bathroom and separate sitting area are on the ground floor. Chalet 9 has a sauna too. A little dated but works perfectly well.
Breakfast is excellent. A good choice of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, full English, smoked salmon, avocado on toast, basically something for everyone.
The evening meals looked good too, but we didn't eat at the hotel in the evenings, we were out and about.
Our hosts and staff were more than welcoming.

Absolutely the perfect place to stay for my two nights allowing me to explore Haltwhistle region and walk part of Hadrian’s Wall. As a solo traveller traveling by train I was very grateful to the hosts collecting me from the station and also from my pub dinner. Room was perfect - warm and inviting. Breakfast was particularly wonderful - literally fluffiest omelette ever!! Love the farm location. Thank you Linda

Bardon Mill is a small village, but hosts a unique pottery business and has easy access to the A69, enabling you to get to Newcastle or Carlisle very easily and, of course, all the various places in between. Housesteads Roman Fort is just a few minutes drive, as is Vindolanda The area is rural, rugged and beautiful

The Bowes Hotel has the feel and atmosphere of a happy family. The cooked breakfast and dinner portions were large. We especially enjoyed our Thai meals. On the day we arrived the hotel was able to accommodate us and four guests for dinner at short notice. The room and en-suite were clean and well stocked. We found the owners and staff to be chatty and friendly - it made us feel ‘seen’ and welcomed.

I met up with my daughter, son in law and their family here, so they had 3 generations to deal with (including a baby). Every member of staff that we encountered, was friendly, smiling and helpful. We felt very well looked after and cared for.
The breakfast table was FANTASTIC. There was an amazing amount of beautifully presented fresh fruit including, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, melon.... just fabulous, and all fresh, not defrosted from frozen. AND THEN... a good selection of hot breakfasts to choose from, made to order.
The outdoor space was great. Plenty of tables with seating, and some lovely undercover spaces.
This is a great place to stay to visit many parts of Hadrian's Wall. the Roman Museum is a couple of miles away. The Sill, in which you could spend hours absorbing the extremely well presented information about the area, is a five minute walk. The grandchildren loved this place.
Thank You to all the staff at Twice Brewed for a lovely weekend.
The quality of service, comfort, cleanliness, the welcome, professionalism of staff, just everything was of a very high standard - to the level that we broke our journey home on the way back, just so that we could stay here again! Can't rate the Bowes Hotel highly enough.
Was desperately disappointed not to be able to sample the Thai menu - but only because of my own health issues - it looked so inviting! The chef was very skilled. Everything we ate was delicious!
The room clean and comfortable.
The pub friendly and food delicious. We were there 7 days and worked our way through the menu. All food was great. The owner Ian Millar was very hospitable. Has expert knowledge of the Roman history of the area and was kind enough to drive us to the Roman Fort. The staff could not have been more attentive and kind. I highly recommend The Bowes Hotel. Locals congregate at the pub and we befriended several of them.
This was the most expensive room on our 6 different hotels trip completing the Hadrians Wall Path. It was also our least favourite. The shower pressure was really bad. Not what you want after walking 10 hours. We had dinner in the hotel and the onion rings we ordered came in their own bowl and were swimming in oil.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and recently refurbished. It is listed in a gorgeous village, close (by car) to Hadrians Wall attractions. Included breakfast is wonderful and the pub restaurant downstairs has good food. It's small and fairly quiet, and a good place to share travel tips with other guests. We loved it!
Exceptional stay. Friendly staff. Lovely room. Lovely food. Lots of small generous touches like sparkling water replenished daily, big variety of drinks for bedroom, huge freshly cooked breakfast. Excellent location for Hadrians Wall sites. Very professionally run hotel. Very clean and comfortable.
Very comfortable and clean. Staff are more than nice. Food great. Good pack lunches for our walks. One of our group is vegan and the staff went out of their way to prepare her special meals. We were given lifts to places we needed to start our walk. Definately recomend this hotel.
Great service and food. Breakfast was especially good with wide variety to choose from. Location is perfect for Hadrian’s Wall and other popular walks in the area. Hotel is extremely dog friendly and even helped us with basic wash facilities for our spaniels after our muddy walk.
The overall stay was perfect from start to finish. The atmosphere in the hotel was fabulous, it was a Halloween party night, so much fun, the staff are always at their best! The hotel is so clean, comfortable and friendly, we keep going back as it's our perfect!
Staff all very friendly and helpful.
Food lovely - good vegan options.
We were upgraded for free from a smallish to a very large room when I sprained my ankle - they couldn’t have been more kind and helpful.
Bardon Mill is a beautiful place to stay.
Everything was perfect, including the food and the lovely room. It was very near Bardon Mill train station if you wanted to visit Hexham, Newcastle or Carlisle by train. It is near Hadrian's Wall.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Bowes Hotel. The accommodation was very good and the food was great ... no need to search elsewhere for a restaurant. All the staff were welcoming and helpful.
Absolutely stunning hotel.Great location on Hadrians Way walking trip.Food was fab and the best breakfast all week of the trip.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend 👌.
