The city of Aynho is a rip-roaring centre of the international money-laudering and modern slavery trade. Oh no, hang on, I have made a mistake. It's a cute littrle sleepy village about 20 minutes from Banbury.

It was quiet but we expected that under the circumstances It is nicely situated with fairly close access, by car, to some really nice Cotswold towns, and within a 20 minute drive of Blenheim Palace, which was amazing and not to be missed. The hotel food was very nice and The Great Western Arms a short drive away was also very pleasant, with a nice walk along the canal bank with several barges to see.

Unusual name, unexpected delight - a picture-perfect village without the crush of tourists that the neighbouring Cotswold villages attract. (Slightly nervous of highlighting it in case this causes it to be overrun!) Aynho is known as the Apricot Village, and sure enough many sunny walls had apricot trees trained against them, laden with ripening fruit. An interesting church, and a pleasing sense of history ... the welcoming Cartwright Arms is named after the family who were lords of the manor for centuries.

Cartwright Hotel is my choice whenever I travel out of London. Aynho is on the M40 motorway and only 70 miles from St Pancras train station or a ilttle shorter to Heathrow International Airport. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. Our dinner and breakfast showed the presence of a true chef. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was amble.
