La Flotte is a tranquil quaint authentic village/small town.
La Flotte is a tranquil quaint authentic village/small town. It is home to a range of artisan boutiques and shops, art galleries, wine houses and a market (open daily from 10.00am to 2.00pm), full of fresh produce (meat, eggs, breads, preserves, spices, fruit, vegetables) and much more. The cobbled streets invite the visitor to explore, they are full of charm and the street names give a clue to the history of the town. If anyone gets the story behind the restaurant called the Pirates Fiancee, I will be dying to hear. The walk along the sea front is magnificent and it goes almost all the way to Saint Martin De Ré, takes about 35 minutes, and well worth the visit. There are really good restaurants along this route, off the beaten track, just follow your nose. Cycling is a must around this area. There is an abundance of Velos (bicycles) for hire, make sure you get either a classique or a premium, and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area. Take a picnic from the market for a great day out!

This is a tiny village that punches well above its weight (in season) in terms of restaurants, shops, markets and more. Then there's the view over the Atlantic ocean to the west where the sun sets. We ate like royalty for the two days we were there, and loved the high quality food and casual atmosphere of the St Georges in the harbour.

L'Escailler restaurant was really excellent.
L'Escailler restaurant was really excellent. Could not find anything as good for the second night. Some waiters were a little rude at one of the bars, made us wait so long we gave up and left! But La Flotte is charming and a short pleasant cycle ride to St Martin. Lovely market and shopping in both towns. We never got to the beaches.

Accommodation was bohemian.
Accommodation was bohemian. We stepped from the front courtyard onto a beautiful tree-lined boulevard, which twinkled with tree lights every evening and there was also a street market beneath. Quite enchanting. The beach was immediately to the rear of the property with plenty of lovely restaurants. The harbor was just round the corner mooring boats. A lovely atmosphere ensued from the many restaurants which lined this. There was also live music playing on a stage which commenced the week we arrived in July. The music was varied for all tastes. Plenty to do, but then it was quiet to sleep.
This hotel exemplifies a truly seamless and delightful experience from the very moment of arrival. Conveniently located parking ushers in the start of a stay marked by culinary excellence—breakfasts to awaken the senses and dinners that warmly invite satisfaction. Each room boasts a private terrace overlooking the pristine front lines of the seaside, complemented beautifully by the serene indulgence of the spa.
Really fun for the kids, they loved the big pool with water slide, we also had a private small dipping pool outside our cabin which was great. The weather was lovely at the time of year we travelled (June). The proximity and accessibility of La Flotte is fantastic - would recommend taking a car to explore the island.
Hotel is very central, room is not very big, but has comfortable bed, good shower, hairdryer and coffee making facilities. Lovely big window opens onto the harbour.
