Being a city person, Launceston was a lot quieter than expected. There aren't many shops/restaurants around but enough.
If you are into nature, hiking and camping, then Launceston and its surroundings is the perfect goldmine. We loved Cradle Mountain and the endless hikes it offered.
There are many quaint little coastal towns to explore too up north.

Be sure where you stay what they say Is what you get.
Be sure where you stay what they say Is what you get. Look for value for money. Make sure you are aware some properties do want their money days before you arrive and not on arrival. Stay central to access in walking distance to businesses.
Look up parking, locations etc before trekking out.
Amazing accommodations in the center of Launceston. Super spacious apartment with all major attractions walkable. We loved the decor especially the world atlas in the dining room and comics. We spent 2 nights here but 1 week would have been better based on how we loved Launceston and the accommodations. Bonus for the secure private parking space. Mal was easy to communicate with and super friendly. Thanks!
WOWWWW..this was like combination of old heritage homes in Indian village plus Hogwarts in Harry Potter!! Bonus was a windmill in the campus. Excellent rooms, super comfy. Amazing big bathrooms. Ever helpful staff..they guided us so well. hardly 5 block walkable to the downtown Launceston . Hotel is very close to Cataract Gorge "Estuary" which you can walk .
The staff at Balmoral were incredible, always very welcoming and on hand to assist. I had a later check in upon arrival and this was no issue - and each morning they were there to assist with the breakfast - which as a bonus inclusion - as well as any requests. The rooms were neat and tidy and location is perfectly within the Launceston CBD.
Everything! We have traveled alot over the years and this is the finest and most complete B&B we have ever stayed it! Nothing has been forgotten!Topiary features everywhere in the garden. Barry has done exceptional work over the years.
If you are in the Launceston area it is a must to stay! Only a 15 minute walk to the Cataract Gorge.
The hotel is decidedly late middle age, and will eventually need a thorough-going refurbishment. But it is clean and most things work ok. It's in a great location: a quick walk to downtown Launceston. The included continental breakfast was better than these things usually are. The parking set up was good too.
It is less 'hotel' and more self contained apartment accommodation. In saying that, it was a lovely stay however after previously staying at Peppers Silo in Launceston, it is definitely not as luxurious.
I do want to thank Cathy for going above and beyond during our stay always happy and smiling too!
Nothing at all it was not the hotel that we booked. Hotel Launceston has been converted into an office block.
After spending 1.5 hours trying to find the hotel having seen the original hotel Launceston in the centre of town we had to enquire with the locals to find where we were to stay.
The staff are awesome! Very friendly and helpful. Hotel is new, with nice modern design and very clean. The pillows and bed are very comfortable. Priced reasonably. Will be staying again here when I go back to Launceston.
Highly recommended!
The hotel accommodation is really excellent value for money. The room was clean and comfortable and Mowbray has all the facilities I needed. I have now stayed there three times and am happy to stay there in any future visits to Launceston.
The Cornwall Historic Hotel is conveniently located in Launceston CBD. Within walking distance of shops, bars, cafe/restaurants and public parks etc. Great for a night out in the city.
I liked the modern style of the hotel, also the friendly staff. The view from my room was great, you could overlook almost whole Launceston. That hotel is very quiet and comfy.
The staff were absolutely wonderful, couldn't get any better - helpful, happy, positive. The hotel was so close to the Lavender estate and other locations so that was fab.
This hotel is very central but is also quiet. The rooms were incredibly clean and comfortable. We will definitely be staying here next time we are in Launceston!
Lovely interior to the hotel with beautiful artwork. Very comfy bed! Parking within the hotel without issue. Great spot for a one night stop off in Launceston.
