Katoomba is a great place to go for bush walks in wonderful scenery. The popular spots (Echo Point) are crowded but it's easy to go a kilometre away and be quite alone. Walks are very well marked and maintained. There are several other tourist attractions (cable car, scenic railway) which would appeal to younger tourists but the real beauty of the place remains the mountain scenery and the fresh air. We were surprised at the number and variety of good eating places. Neighbouring towns like Leura and Blackheath are also good places to visit and very close. Hint: bring something warm - it can get cold at night and windy during the day.

Katoomba has a wonderful atmosphere, great cafes and many interesting outdoor activities. Very different vibe from other NSW towns. Wonderful natural vegetation everywhere. Great place to rug up and get cosy.

Take the local bus down from the town to the cliff edge.

Take the local bus down from the town to the cliff edge. Walk along the upper cliff paths. Catch the bus back. Katoomba town is a bit ‘tired’ but the views toward the Blue Mountains and the cliff walks make up for it There are some high end and middling restaurants near the Three Sisters viewpoint. Adequate food at the latter. If it’s misty you won’t see anything. Katoomba Falls are pretty. Bus stop nearby.

We travelled by train for our wedding anniversary weekend.

We travelled by train for our wedding anniversary weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed Katoomba because of the class and number of dining experiences within easy commute. We had afternoon tea at Lillienfels and dinner in Katoomba. We stayed at the Corrington Hotel which is very close to the station and other amenities in the town. We highly recommend Katoomba for a trip a little back in time to a slower pace.

    It's def worth the visit.

It's def worth the visit. The train ride is easy and reasonably priced (check for the fast train which has fewer stops). There are many activities in walking distance and the train is also an option. Just a cute town. Oh, and a lovely library.

Unfortunately, we had 4 days of complete white out and rain and cold. We didn't get to see any of the views, lookouts, walks or scenic world. 🥲🥲🥲🥲 Very disappointing. I guess we couldn't control the weather. We were extremely disappointed with the attitude towards tourists re parking in the town! Everywhere we went, there were signs that said, "Pay By Phone" Little back streets, shopping centres, everywhere. The cost was up to $8 for 15mins .. so complicated. It assumed you had a mobile phone and a credit card attached to it. I don't mind user pays, but they don't even accept cash. It seems when goggling parking that the locals get a free permit system. We did have a nice meal at the Chinese restaurant for lunch which filled in sometime during our stay. I guess this is a very busy place in good weather and at other times. We won't bother returning again. We will look at views on the travel shows!

Staying at this hotel is like being wrapped in a cozy blanket of luxury, with views that could make even the most seasoned traveler pinch themselves just to check if it's real. The scenery outside the window is so stunning, it's like Mother Nature hired a personal decorator. And let's talk about the rooms - they're so lovely, I half expected them to tuck me in at night and read me a bedtime story. It's like sleeping in a cloud made of marshmallows and dreams.

I really enjoyed everything from the warm welcome to the level of service. Staff is wonderful! Excellent breakfast and food in the dining room, the bar is well stocked. The Carrington has an undiscribable atmosphere. If in Katoomba this is the place to stay if you enjoy an old (1880) colonial hotel. Sitting on the veranda you can almost feel like taken back in time (with som imagination of course). I highly recommend this hotel!

The Metropole is a lovely traditional hotel in a good location in Katoomba. Our room was not one of the refurbished ones but was fine for an overnight stay given the very reasonable cost.

This is a grand guest house/hotel which feels recently renovated. Our room was large and comfortable. It's perfectly located just beyond Katoomba's main drag.
