Pretty little town on the lake, with a couple of excellent restaurants nearby serving local cuisine mostly. Lots to see, lovely walks, hikes and drives. One glaring problem they need to address ASAP. Gmunden lacks a decent 4/5 star hotel. There are a couple which are adequate 3 stars.

Very nice city with a breathtaking view with a castle on the lake and high hills covered in clouds.
The lake is crystal clear, so perfect for swimming, or sailing.
There are ferrys that can take you to other parts of the lake.
Just an absolutely gorgeous and clean city with very welcoming people.
Many art galleries and all sorts of exhibitions.
We also reccomend Hotel Zum Goldenen Hirschen in the city centre with a luxury design and very nice staff.

The town offers many activities such as: an electric boat ride on the lake, a cable car that leads to the mountain above the lake, from where there is a fantastic view of the glaciers and the Alps.

The Esplanade Hotel in the City Center is a disaster (including a pizzeria there) - go to the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb (Croatia) and see what the service and luxury is. We left the day before, this is a city of old people….
Hotel Esplanade is amazing. My room has no bathtub, just shower, but the view is facing the lake. Everything is super clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It is warm at night inside the room and shower is great. The breakfast (starting 730am) was very good too. I would like to thank staff member Ms Day for making my stay wonderful.

Note the supermarket is at right downstairs the hotel. It is closed on Sunday but opens 715am on Monday so it is convenient.
This hotel is really stunning. It’s so modern and chic with beautiful fixtures and finishes. The room we were in was large with a good sized walk out terrace. The shower and tub in the room were great, it was liking being at a spa! The staff was always working to keep the facilities in pristine condition. The location was just perfect. Centrally located. Only a few minutes walk from anywhere you’d want to be. We would definitely recommend. Especially in the cooler months.
Every single things of the hotel and our stay was simply amazing, beyond expectations. The hotel is front line on the lake, it has a panorama view restaurant. The rooms are very big, nice and cosy, warm in winter. The breakfast was totally delicious, indeed it turned out that this hotel also has a cooking school. And the owners are absolutely wonderful. I definitely recommend this hotel and would love to return again, we were very happy! Thank you!
Located right in the centre of Gmunden, its a very special experience. The apartment is in an old building (probably used to be church property) but very well maintained. The view is right on the church, the lake is a two-min walk. With two kids it made a perfect stopover. The apartment is spacious, beds are comfortable, bathroom is clean.

It’s a good hotel with excellent location, especially of the lake view which make the stay very much enjoying. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. One other thing that make me feel very comfortable is the closeness between the room and the car parking. It was an excellent comfort combination.
This is an incredible hotel with incredible the staff. They helped us arrange transportation from the train station, warmly received us, provided us with a beautiful room, had amazing bar service, and the breakfast was incredible as well. I can’t wait to go back!
