International Airport. Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus.
The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.
The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.
The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.

Amazing transport system, so many buses and trolley buses.
Amazing transport system, so many buses and trolley buses. We took the bus to Hellbrun and Untersberg mountain. All this was included in the Salzburg card which is great value for money. The city centre is small enough to walk everywhere but you can always hop on the bus.

Being in the centre of the old part of Salzburg is always a pleasure. We are usually there for the Christmas market when it is really quite crowded; however in October it was much quieter which we appreciated as now being a lot older we found it easier to get about. People were extremely kind and helpful. Would love to visit again but maybe difficult as I am now 86 and husband 93 - next week 94 and we loved every minute.

Fortress and Cathedral with afternoon concert were great.
Fortress and Cathedral with afternoon concert were great. The horse trough is unique. Sto Bene was a tasty alternative for Schnitzel, not that Austrian food wasn't exceptional. Backerei Holztrattner provided great breakfasts. Really just strolling around is a pleasure. Seems like an open-air museum.
Trouble with taxis!! One, called from our very nice B&B, started driving off with our luggage in the trunk. No apologies - "forgot". Another one from the sanctioned line at the train station had no seat belts.

Great location for all things Mozart and Sound-of-Music.
Great location for all things Mozart and Sound-of-Music. The castle on the hill was great, as were the Dom (cathedral) and the Mozart birthplace. We visited during the St. Ruperts Day festival in September so we ate a lot of street food (which we enjoyed). Salzburg is a great base for exploring the nearby lake district. We enjoyed the Mondsee, the Attersee, and even went to the breathtakingly beautiful Admont library. So many other things in the surrounding countryside we didn't get to (Hallstadt, etc). A warning: the Mozart concerts are a tourist scam. I have heard better quality playing at concerts at 1/5 the ticket price. Save your money.

Located in a quiet residential area, about a 10 minute walk into Salzburg old town but some shops and restaurants are only 5 minutes away. Good room nicely furnished. Had a problem with our original room but this was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the friendly staff on reception. We did not have breakfast in the hotel so can’t comment on the food
Great hotel, in the old town of Salzburg. The room is spacious, modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable, we slept very well. Ulrike, the host, warmly welcomed us and was very helpful with all the recommendation for things to do in our short stay in town. She really made our stay. Thank you, Ulrike. :)
