High Grassings Country House, hotel in Torver

High Grassings lies in the heart of the Lake District with views of the surrounding fells.

The breakfast was really good, just the right amount. We asked for a room with a lake view, and we were certainly not disappointed, it was stunning, getting full advantage of both sun and moon rise, both equally spectacular, (it should be noted that we were blessed with fantastic weather and a full harvest moon).

Meadowdore Stay B&B, hotel in Torver

Located in the lakeland village of Coniston, Meadowdore Cafe B&B offers free WiFi access and free on-site parking.

Perfect Location What a great accidental find this was! Its central location in Coniston, close to shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as Coniston Water itself, meant we were able to leave our car in the free parking area (another bonus). From the minute we arrived, our host, Frances, was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Our room was relatively small but not an issue as there is a lovely little area at the front of the property with tables and benches - we were lucky enough to have some sun - with lots of colourful plants. If the weather is not as favourable, there is a charming lounge downstairs with a few sofas to chill on. There was a shelf with DVDs and our room had a TV with built-in DVD player. Room also had a mini fridge stocked with bottled water, and we were given fresh milk for the rea/coffee facilities in the room. I loved the decor with a few feature walls, both in our room and on the stairs/ in the lounge. Breakfast was plentiful with a choice of fruit & yoghurt for starter, full cooked English, and toast with tea/coffee. I think Frances' attention to the little things (good quality towels, bath robes, complimentary toiletries, fresh milk instead of the usual cartons, homemade shortbread on arrival) all contribute to the success of her B&B, along with, of course, the hard work she obviously dedicates to it every day. No hesitation in recommending this to anyone, and if I was coming this way again, I'd stay here myself.

Walker Ground Manor, hotel in Torver

Situated in the historic village of Hawkshead, Walker Ground Manor is a traditional country house dating back to 16th century.

Absolutely loved everything about this place – it feels like a home away from home. The room (we stayed in the four-poster) was spacious, spotless, and the bed was super comfy. There were also two chairs perfect for enjoying a brew and the delicious homemade flapjack while looking out at the mountains. The bathroom was a highlight, with a great shower and an even better bath. Sue and Richard are fantastic hosts, and their poached eggs are cooked to perfection! 😜

The room was warm and cosy and very clean. Had everything I needed and the bed was amazingly comfortable! Breakfast was fantastic as was the food served in the evening and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Great location for starting walks but also well placed for driving further afield. Will definitely stay again when I'm in the area!

The property is so quaint! The lay-out is very efficient and the setting is just beautiful. I loved the cottage-style decor of the property and the location is ideal for any outdoor activities in the area. Breakfast was a winner! Our host was kind, friendly, attentive and well informed about the area, its history and the the treasures to discover while hiking and cycling. The bed was sublime. I slept like a baby and woke up to a fabulous view every morning.

Beautiful and modern lodge, great parking spot right next to the lodge and very clean. Location is stunning. The electric fireplace heater in the main area made it very atmospheric on those rainy cold days.

Julie is very friendly and informative Room is very clean and exceeded my expectations on such a historic building, and they maintain the building in a very good condition :) It is not near town center, however the location is quiet if you love to enjoy your night with the nature.

A 14th century structure, full of character. Room was spacious and very clean, same goes for the bathroom. Location is sort of right in the centre of Lake District. A pretty little village away from the main towns(and tourists:) Windermere and Ambleside 35-40 mins drive. Same for Rydal fall and Rydal cave. Aira force waterfall is about an hour away. Coniston waterfall is 20 mins drive. So overall a pretty decent location.

Location ideal for my needs. The room was comfortable and quiet. I was able to access the room even if I'd been out late at night. Extra water and tea/coffee/biscuits were available just outside the room. Breakfast was lovely, a good range of food on offer.
