Amoudara has one main street where all the shops and restaurants are and that's pretty much it. You take any side streets and you'll end up in one of the neighboring settlements. The place feels neglected and doesn't look pretty. From half-finished, deserted buildings with lots of junk nearby, to overgrown shrubs and trees, which you have to avoid by ducking or walking into the street sometimes, which doesn't make it very safe. There's also a power plant nearby which really takes away from the overall impression. During the first couple of days of my stay, there was some unpleasant smell in the air, not sure if it was the power plant or some other reason, but it was really awful.
The beach is great as long as it's not windy but, unfortunately, it usually is.

Pretty nice beach and close to town and port to catch the ferry at 9am for us. We could easily get to the South Coast and east coast for sightseeing without being stuck in town.

Nice beaches but awerall quite littery. It is worth to rent a car and leave this place for even nicer beaches and the wonderful Natural History Museum. (As I sea the public transport is also frequent to Knossos and to the city center.)

Enorme Teatro Beach exceeded my expectations!
Enorme Teatro Beach exceeded my expectations! Our fiance and I went there to exchange our vows on the beach. It was our first time in Crete... From the very first day of the online booking till the very last day at the hotel the staff were always helpful, making sure we had everything we need (taxis, dinner, photographer, answering our questions...). The swim-up option in our room was beyond what I imagined. Also he food is quite exceptional!!
I would definitely recommend Enorme Teatro Beach to anyone anywhere, anytime!

A really nice cosy hotel - Some small things have space for improvement, but maybe this makes exactly the atmosphere.
The breakfast buffet is extraordinary !
But the biggest asset of this hotel, is the team - and I mean the whole team including the lady taking care about cleaning !
If I would decide for Ammoudara/Heraklion again, I definitely would come back to this hotel !

The strongest point of the hotel is the easy access to the beach, the availability of plenty of loungers both near the pool and at the beach. The beach itself is also very nice, with soft golden sand and a great view over Crete's mountains. The attention and help of all the staff is also very commendable. I always got a solution for any problem or question I had. Also, the hotel's location makes it very easy to walk into any restaurant or to quickly catch a bus to Heraklion.
Ikaros suites was an amazing place to stay ! Our room was beautiful and felt very Greek. We loved how chilled and beautiful the hotel is. The pool area is so lovely and overlooks the mountains in the back. The staff were lovely and always on hand to help us. The breakfast was delicious and had lots of choice. We also ate lunch and dinner there as it was amazing- the best meal we had in Crete. We would definitely recommend Ikaros Suites.
One of the best stay I had ! This is a hotel managed by a very nice family. I was in Heraklion for work and could telework easily in a quiet environment with the pool as a pause between two projects. Clean, spacious, all the equipment necessary, close to the beach and restaurants, bus station very close, and most of all generous and kind people of the hotel! I recommend and will come back for sure in this place. Amazing!
It was close to the beach only approx. 300 m walk..The hotel is easily reachable from the airport with bus No.1 or 6...You can get off at "Hotel Castro station" which is right in front of the hotel...There is supermarket, excursion office, car rental places next to the hotel, (across the location as well u can find many of them) restaurants and souvenir shops nearby...The staff was nice and had a quiet sleep also..
Our room had been recently renovated and it matches perfectly the photos, we were very pleased with the comfort, the facilities, and the size. We had a nice side view from the ocean and the pool area. The hotel staff was very helpful, gave us good tips about activities and restaurants, and helped us book transportation. We went off-season, so it was very quiet, which we appreciated. Breakfast was small, but good.
This hotel is a decent one, if you are staying with kids. They have a nice pool with kids pool area. The taverna attached to the hotel also has a big section for kids to play around and have fun. It is very safe. The hotel is very close to the Heraklion city center and 15-20 mins away from the airport. There is a small beach in walking distance. Rooms are pretty new and well maintained.
The hotel is very close to the airport, about 15 minutes driving or by Taxi. The hotel has a wonderful design. All the facilities including the rooms are very clean. They have wonderful staff at all their facilities. We booked our stay on half board basis and the food was excellent. The beach restaurant, had great menu as well.
Antonis, our host, was friendly and accommodating especially with check- in and check-out flexibility. There is a food supermarket a few meters from the hotel and the beach is only a few mins walk. The bus stop is also nearby as well as great restaurants. The hotel is well positioned for tourists to explore Crete.
This was our second stay in this lovely hotel. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect for our overnight stay, including the varied and delicious breakfast, which we ate in the beautiful garden beside the pool. We will definitely stay there again next time we are in Heraklion.
