Westward Ho Hotel, hotel in Folkestone

Situated in Folkestone and with Folkestone Beach reachable within 600 metres, Westward Ho Hotel features express check-in and check-out, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi throughout the property...

The location was excellent, within comfortable walking distance of the centre of town and the coastal walk. I had an ensuite room which was spacious, well appointed with the necessary coffee and tea etc, and clean. I'm a theatre nurse and a little OCD about cleanliness; the room and hotel satisfied my picky expectations.

It wasn't my first choice (I was catching the channel ferry and I would have preferred to have been in Dover) but what a pleasant surprise. I was travelling with my dog and I was amazed at how dog friendly the town was. I particularly liked the coastal walks and I enjoyed reading the informational plaques around the town. One thing I found so touching was Remembrance Road adorned with the handmade poppies. I was struck by how much effort the council has devoted to highlighting Folkestone's attractions and making them accessible to visitors. I enjoyed just wandering around the town with my dog and appreciating it's history and sights. Folkestone turned out to be a serendipitous experience and I'm glad that I didn't stay in Dover.

Folkestone has reasonable shopping facilities for a small town. It is close to some very beautiful areas of Kent, like the Elham Valley. It has excellent train service on the high speed trains from London Canterbury is about 45 minutes drive away and well worth a visit. If you enjoy walking in scenic countryside Folkestone is surrounded by it. The town is hilly and getting down to the harbour means negotiating a fairly steep gradient, so might be less enjoyable or more challenging for people with mobility problems. There is a bus service. There are restaurants, pubs, places to eat out but if you're on a budget there is an Asda, a Sainbury and a Lidl store in the town centre where you can buy food. There is a good bus service to Dover and to Canterbury.

The staff are well motivated, kind, helpful and professional. We are a mixed community staying at the Grand Burstin. Everyone receives the same exceptional level of service. What else would you expect from this very special corner of our great country. Kent values are centuries old. First Class. Arrive and treat the staff as you wish to be treated and you will be warmly welcomed and the Grand Burstin will become your hotel of choice either as a base to explore Kent or as your gateway to Europe.

On arrival we were upgraded to a lovely room with four poster bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. During dinner our waiter was very apologetic that we needed to wait for our starter and couldn’t have done more to look after us. The food was delicious. We needed to leave early in the morning and so staff opened up the restaurant early for us so that we could still have a cooked breakfast before we left. The manager asked us frequently how our stay was. We would use this hotel again if in the area.

We have stayed at this Folkestone Holiday Inn Express several times and always receive a warm welcome when checking in. The hotel is extremely well located for the EuroTunnel. The rooms are basic, clean, comfortable and relatively spacious. Breakfast is very good - cereals, breads, yoghurts, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausages etc. and the vending machines deliver hot, fresh coffee, tea, chocolate etc. Thank you to all the staff (in all departments) who work hard to provide a good experience for guests.

As I have a mobility scooter we were relocated to a ground floor room. This, for obvious reasons, was not the executive room for which I had paid. Also, we did not get the continental breakfast for which I had paid, at £6 per person per night. So, I reckon we are due a partial refund. I have to say, however, that John was superb and a credit to the hotel. He helped me get my scooter in and out of the hotel, as all entrances had steps.

Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. Nice bar and outdoor seating for eating and drinking. Fair size, clean bedroom and bathroom. Decent full English breakfast. Very short walk from beach, shops, pubs and restaurants. If you can park outside the hotel, they can get your parking ticket sorted out for you very cheaply. Ideal for the Folkestone half marathon - the start line is a 5 min walk away. Very close for the Skabour festival too.

Hotel location was excellent, just 5 minutes walk from the seafront. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom very clean , with nice toiletries. Hotel was pet friendly and so our spaniel also enjoyed his stay . The restaurant was very good , we ate there twice including the excellent Sunday lunch carvery. Pleased to see that the hotel serves exceptionally fine English wines from Kent !

I ve been ill as the winds gave me a cold . I stocked up a healthy drink supply from Holland n barret and felt lookingvat thd cafe area the soft drinks looked like a sugar haven..just knaff and cheap..better to hve sparkling water for sale and maybe offer a cordial . The other extreme the restaurant is high ranking . Pls ask around who forgets the Dartford toll? I did..maybe a reminder card at reception?

Arranged to stay for 1 night at the last minute for a stop off. Had a great stay without knowing much about Folkestone or the area around the hotel. It's safe to say that we will be back at some point. The staff that we met were very helpful and welcoming. The room itself was amazing. Very clean, modern, and plenty of space. Amenities available in the room were great, lots of sockets and USB points.

Such a lovely property, really nice and comfortable room with everything you need, great breakfast - tasty and a good choice of hot and cold food. Very attentive and friendly staff. Fresh homemade cake in the afternoon was amazing - best banana bread I’ve ever eaten. Great location too, only a few minutes from the sea. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Folkestone.

You're only meters away from the Eurotunnel and the A20, yet you'd think you were deep in the beautiful Kent countryside. And to think in the past we'd drive into Folkestone for the night before a morning crossing to France. Never again...
