Had requested an early check in which was made available to us at no extra cost.
The room was OK but only one bedside table and a TV of which the majority of the channels were unavailable after 9pm (was this a streaming or WIFI issue...???). Separate socket for a hairdryer but no hairdryer in the room(?)...
Breakfast was OK although the coffee/hot water machine was out of order and had to rely on "large flasks" which got moved around so having coffee come out onto a tea bag was wasteful. Also had to ask twice for the hot water ones to be be refilled. Lack of bread as well.

I was attending a funeral and the staff were very accommodating letting my friend and I check in early. Free parking just around the corner and a great location to where the wake was, so all in all it was very convenient. The breakfast was yummy and the staff were very pleasant.

So pleased to stay with other guests at the same wedding and being accommodated as a group. Well organised and helpful staff. Thanks for providing the evening buffet and breakfast - proved really popular.
Overall the rooms are bright and generous. Even family rooms made available for those with children.

Clearwell is a quiet village and the local amenities are just a short drive from Clearwell. Unfortunately Clearwell Castle is not open to the publikc but you can drive up to take a quick picture.
The local pubs where closed due to COVID so do your researech for places to drink and eat.

Delightful hotel, wish we could have stopped longer.
Delightful hotel, wish we could have stopped longer. Little touches like blankets for sitting outside, umbrellas for walking back to the rooms, board games to play were very thoughtful. Lots to see around the area. We couldn’t eat in the hotel as it was fully booked but ate at the pub next door which was very good.

Some attractions such as Puzzle Wood and Clearwell Caves are within easy walking distance but when you get near them they are all on a main road without a footpath. We walked to Puzzle Wood with four children and decided not to go in by the main entrance as it involved a stretch of busy road. This was not appreciated by staff, so recommendation is to drive everywhere!

Very small, idyllic English countryside town.
Very small, idyllic English countryside town. Close to lots of hiking trails in the Forest of Dean.
Visited both Raglan Castle and Goodrich Castle for a little history, the grounds and sites were attractive.
Walks are around the area are great but give the Forest of Dean Sculpture trail a miss, as the sculptures are run down and underwhelming.
Puzzlewood very close to Clearwell, and a great day out for kids and kids at heart, to get lost in the Forest of Dean, and meet some farm animals.
Eat at the Butchers Arm, for friendly staff and great food. With only a few options to eat in Clearwell itself, we did go into Monmouth for more food options which are only a 15min drive.
The room was located in a lodge with remote access functioning exactly as the hotel informed us. Perfect for our needs, large car park and located in a lovely village. I must say, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and large, room clean and beautifully appointed bathroom, albeit the toilet needs to be moved a little away from the wall. Very cosy for our needs overall and a nice breakfast provided next door.
The staff were so friendly and we loved how quiet the hotel was, we had a room in the main building separate to the main restaurant/bar it was quiet and felt really homey and bespoke even though this wasnt one of the separate cottages, the room is really rustic and cosy. Its the perfect place to unwind and switch off
We received a warm welcome from the staff and the whole hotel site was beautiful. All areas were clean and tidy and tastefully designed.
The rooms were clean and well equipped.
Breakfast was delicious!
