Built in 1676 as a hunting lodge for King Charles II, the Speech House Hotel has been refurbished to offer modern facilities and luxurious rooms while retaining its period features. The Speech House is situated 5 miles from the Wye Valley in the heart of the Forest of Dean.

The staff are excellent. The rooms are quiet and exceptionally clean and comfortable. We travelled from Australia. I am English and wanted to take my husband as it was the last place my family stayed before we immigrated in 1964. The place has always been dear to me and I have visited 3 times. Always above expectations.

The location in the centre of town was handy. The rooms and bed linen were clean. Plenty of tea and coffee supplied in the room. Very good substantial breakfast supplied. The room had character, with exposed beams and the odd creaky floorboard.
