Fantastic. This is a hotel but in the style of a ryoken. I had half board and was served some amazing delicacies for dinner. Breakfast was also provided with a huge choice. Both breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese meals. No Western food at all, which made it such a great experience. Lots of fresh produce, especially seafood.
Drinks were provided from 3pm free. Including sake.
The onsen was wonderfully hot, and there is a cute hand spa out the front. It is very convenient right on town and a few minutes from the lake. Also, I was able to do some of the local hikes into the foothills. The Konpirra - yama Foot route is great.
Highly recommend this hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Even free bikes for rental.

Okay, the onsen is OK. Breakfast is nice! Room is acceptable.
We enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast, but our twin room was small. Sure there's a view, but it's not a million dollar view. The tatami rooms are much larger FWIW. The seashore is just outside, nice for a little walk and lovely sunset or for the kids to make sandcastles.
That's it.
Offering hot-spring baths, a Ganbanyoku stone spa and buffet dinners, Horohoro Sanso provides a shuttle from JR Sapporo Train Station upon advance request at an additional charge.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The view was excellent if you had a lake-facing room. Had a mixed room (2 western beds + 2 futon) for 3 Adults + 1 Child (3 yr old) which was a little tight but ok for 1 night stay. Toilet was tiny but I was enjoying my bath at the public bath/onsen on the top floor of the building.
Onsen facilities had a great view and water temperature was on the hotter side. Make sure to have a soak in the morning and evening as they change the baths around at different times of the day. Nice stay if you want to try Tatami style room and want a good view of the lake.
A family of 5 stayed here in February, this is the first time we stayed in this hotel. Although my booking is not included dinner, I pay for each guest 5000yen for dinner buffet and the buffet is outstanding! Polite staff and a beautiful dining hall , most of the food is surprisingly delicious! Onsen area is super clean and enjoyable! After hot springs can buy a bottle of cold milk at the changing area and it is really soothing!! 8.30pm have a fireworks event, it makes the night perfect.
Great location near fantastic izakayas and 5min from the winter firework displays. Welcome drinks from 3pm so you can try a variety of sake, traditional ryokan style rooms and good onsen. Shuttle bus to station is very convenient.
Relatively big property with 3 buildings. There are several floors that connect the buildings (which is important at the onsen are at the top floor of one, and bottom floor of another. Room has beautiful view of the lake, with an occasional bird visitor to seek shelter from the wind and snow. Hotel has a beautiful library and piano for guests to chill, read, or play. Our room could fit 4 futons comfortably, provided we keep our luggage near the entrance area.
- Very convenient location right in front of the beautiful Lake Toya and the Sculpture Park, as well as konbinis
- Extremely comfortable futon beds
- Excellent facilities (onsen, massage parlour, izakaya, library, cafe, foot spa, buffet breakfast and dinner)
The view of the lake from the ryokan was fabulous. As our stay coincided with the fireworks festival, we had the perfect view of the fireworks display in the comfort of our room. The onsen on 8F offered a panoramic view infinity pool style of the lake. The hotel provided yukata for adults and kids as well with an impressive collection of kids sizes! Buffet breakfast and dinner was also a good spread. Conveniently located near the Mt Usu Ropeway.
