It was only the location that was a bit off, but this could be my Gautengness instilled in me to worry. The TV was a selling point on the website, but upon arrival, yes it was a flat screen but it was also a 32' I think, and the couch is positioned about 2 and a half to 3 meters away which makes it harder to see, although i do have young eyes so it was oh.k for my needs.

Honestly, I couldn't really give a genuine review as I got here at 15h00 and left just before 04h00 the following morning. Safe under cover parking, the room was clean. Roxy was amazing, super helpful, and she even arranged I meet her somewhere I know, and we drove up together to the cottage. Very pleasant experience overall.

From the moment we arrived, the tranquility of the area enveloped us, promising a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The guesthouse catered our every need. Roxy was so helpful and friendly. Went above and beyond to help out with an urgent matter. We are already looking forward to our next visit, which will undoubtedly be for a longer duration.

The surroundings - location - is nice and quiet during daytime, but a slumm- like experience at night - even alarmingly so. Street filled with people, noise and loud music. There was no wifi. The toilet seat was stained. It looked dirty and very unhigenic because of that. The toilet was clean on the outside, but when you looked at the inside, there was a dirty (or stained?) ring of discouleration under the rim of the toilet, where the water come out. The impression it gave was of a hasty, surface cleaning, not attending to the discouleration under the rim. The shower was infested by mold (sealant and grouting, maybe even spout) ) which compose a health risk (of which we have some experience).

The view is exceptional, of you look past the houses in front. The service was outstanding, the courtyard nice and the inside looked sparkling clean. The layout was nice too.

Cottage was very clean and neat. Beds very comfortable. Towels, coffee, tea, rusks, water and a small chocolate was much appreciated. Aircon in each room was a great blessing

The house smelled of mothballs when we arrived, but we opened all the windows, and by the time we arrived back after going for a drive to have a look at the dam, all was good.

Spacious, clean house. The hostess went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable, she took us to a local shop before accompanying us to the house. We ordered breakfast for the following morning and she personally delivered it at the agreed time (8:00) and it was too much for us to finish! We all ordered French Toast with Bacon and it was delicious (only R45-00 per portion!). We also ordered a pizza the previous night, which was perfect. I appreciated the double-ply toilet paper in the house and the pillows deserve a special mention - they were really comfortable. :-)

They could improve on their pillows, these were too flat for our comfort. Curtains were light which brought in way too much light in the room, especially in the early hours. Other than that we had a comfortable and restful break.

The place understands its role in the travel and tourism industry as a halfway stop, in an out, nothing fancy but decent 👌 Loved the touch of rusks for our morning coffee ☕️ 👌 😋

Gariep is a very small town, so it can be expected that they do not have the facilities one is used to in the big cities. I guess that I am far too accustomed to city life. There is not much to do in the area, just a visit to the dam wall and drive around the dam. There also aren’t many restaurants or activities. I also wasn’t keen on staying in a prefab building- this does seem the norm in the area though.

If one is planning a road trip and just needs to stop over to rest, then this is a great spot for one night only- not much more than that. The unit itself is quite spacious and has the basic required amenities. The host is also very friendly and helpful.

Insulation between rooms is not good hence it was a bit noisy. The hot water in the shower was difficult to adjust. Shower was a bit of a mission with cold water.

We made a stop on our way back to johannesburg. This was perfect for a 1-night. Small kitchen with basic equipment. Clean.
