Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunatly construction work was ongoing next door from 07:00 to 23:00 most nights. That is not the hotels fault however.
Free upgraded room.

United KingdomNothing! Could not fault a single thing!
There was nothing to dislike about this property! We got a package when booking which included 60minute massage each, free airport transport one way, 300’000vnd food & drink credit, early and late check in/out. If this wasn’t great enough the staff were extremely helpful and provided us with information via WhatsApp as needed. We got free transfers too and from old town in their transport which included massage seats and only had to WhatsApp for collection giving them a time and location for pickup. The room was beautiful and we got upgraded to a deluxe room with the booking and the tv had Netflix which was a luxury we didn’t realise we needed after 3 weeks backpacking! Recommended the hotel to all my friends who are going to hanoi in the near future.

IndiaLocation. For a 2 day trip, when all the sights and eateries are around old town, this added 30 mins one way for everything we wanted to do, so we had to plan to stay out the whole day to avoid wasting time in transit, lugging around shopping bags in the heat Food, we only ate breakfast here, and this might be a very personal preference as the family was okay with it, but I found the breakfast to be ok at best, that said, the coffee was fantastic. I've had more coffee in 2 days in Vietnam than a month back home
The hotel was lovely. It's small, but the rooms are very beautiful. Staff was helpful.

United Arab EmiratesSuggest the food servers do not have mobile phones, especially as it is a service/ a la carte menu and not a buffet. On my 1st breakfast I had to wave to get the servers attention each time I wanted to order something, as they were so busy looking at their phones. After I complained, the service was better the next day.
One of the best in room dining I have ever experienced...fine dining with exquisite presentation. Compliments to the chef. Overall the service was excellent.

United KingdomNothing really we were glad we out of chaotic downtown to a peaceful part of Hanoi and an interesting square to look over in the mornings with the locals doing their daily exercising which we found very fascinating.
We loved the heritage feel of the hotel obviously a lot of care & detail has gone into this hotel. When returning after sightseeing during the day in a rather chaotic Hanoi it was bliss to return to serenity.

United KingdomThe hotel is a little bit out of the centre of down town Hanoi. Though a Taxi is next to nothing and they have a curtsey bus which you can Wassap them and they will send.
Everything about this hotel is amazing. It is extremely beautiful. The staff are so kind and friendly and it doesn't feel like they are just doing it because it's their jobs. The Massage was great. The price is exceptional. One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Totally loved it.

United Kingdomwhilst not in the old quarter, some could view that as a disadvantage, however providing a free shuttle service and its easy to get about the city using the local and well priced taxi services. Plus we enjoyed escaping the centre of the city for the quietness of our hotel
Well designed and beautiful boutique hotel, in a quiet square away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi city centre. Most importantly the team working there, were very polite and most helpful, with a special shout out to all the ladies on reception- Thank you +++

United StatesNot many food choices in that area without taking a taxi. But Grab is very affordable in Hanoi and easy to get.
Our room (King suite with balcony) is very nice. It has a kitchenette without cooking ware, but the extra sink is useful during high demand hours. Breakfast is excellent. After a few days in noisy old quarter, we got some much needed peaceful sleep here.

AustraliaThe windows could do with a little more soundproofing, especially in the mornings when local kids play volleyball in the square nearby. But that's not a show stopper at all, everything else this hotel offers far outweighs this.
Excellent decor, nice location away from the city centre, and the most helpful staff. The cocktails at the rooftop bar and great food at the restaurant are the icing on the cake. The massage at the spa was very good, better than what we get here in Australia. The staff arranged our trips to the palace and Halong Bay, and ensured that breakfast was packed for us when we had to leave early for the Ha long bay trip. I found that being located away from the Old Quarter was a blessing, as the latter is quite hectic and the noise levels are high.

The staff arranged our trips to the Palace and Ha Long Bay, everything went smoothly and the communication and coordination was above par. The shuttle service to the CBD was handy. United KingdomNothing.
It is said that the quality of a business, particularly a hotel business, is dependent upon the staff working there… never was this truer than with the smarana hotel, hanoi. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left every member of staff was simply incredible - going above and beyond time and time again. Their kindness, politeness and eagerness to please was truly exceptional and something rarely experienced to this level. I am fortunate enough to visit many hotels worldwide - the Smarana is an excellent hotel which is only thanks to their staff. The hotel itself is beautiful, dark and moody rooms leave you wanting to just chill for hours on end. The free breakfast is very nice and the welcome you receive is warm and heartfelt… every single time you are greeted with great staff, from the guy who drives the free shuttle to the ladies on reception to the barman on the rooftop bar (he enjoys making cocktails by the way… and he makes a hell of a good cocktail!). Just the lot of you - brilliant. The beds are very comfortable - and the pillows are lovely, where do I get these?! At home I do not think about spending a lot of money on pillows - but these were probably better than the ones i purchased for hundreds of £’s! There is no doubt that next time I am in Hanoi that I will be back here - as a base whilst staying in Hanoi you will not find much better. If you are reading this review and are considering the hotel then just book it - don’t mess about taking a chance somewhere else.. i promise, you rarely find a hidden gem like this. The hotel is situated about 25 minutes from all the loudness and brashness of the tourist area - it costs about £4 in a taxi, so not a consideration when looking for a peaceful sleep away from loud music and lots of traffic. In these parts of vietnam they use an app called grab for calling a taxi - a bit like uber. The system is efficient and cheap.

United KingdomThe location and the surrounding bars and cafes. This is not in the Smaranas control but its honestly the only criticism.
The staff were fantastic, Andi in front of house was very very helpful and proactive, "Thomas" in the bar was very friendly and chatty when I was on my first day's alone. Scar was a very cool guy and very passionate about coffee. Use of the free shuttle limousine which was the best bus I've ever been in. I could book the trips with the hotel and the boat trip was superb ! I LOVED the decor and artwork in the hotel. The bed was the most comfortable of the trip.

United KingdomBooking system for Spa could be available on line. We had to book through reception which meant times could change. Location is good if you want a relaxing time and away from Old Quarter, but not much to do or eat near hotel as it is a business district. We understand it is great for those who want to relax and be away from the chaos of Hanoi central, but do recommend the Shopping Mall close by (10 min walk), the Pizza Amalfi and Supermarkret is nearby. Much better to just eat at the hotel or use the free shuttle bus which is a very VIP limo bus.
Food was incredible. Breakfast was the best we have ever had in any hotel. Also, (paid for) lunch menu is extremely good value for money! The dinner menu is amazing, Waygu is very good quality, better than we had in the UK. Tea and coffee is exceptional, some of the best drinks we've had. Spa is the best we saw in Vietnam, and great massages. Rooftop cocktail bar is a sanctuary! Free shuttle bus is luxury VIP limo bus!
