“We wanted an authentic Japanese experience during our first trip to Japan and found Yamashiro Onsen, Miyabi no Yado.
From the moment of collection at the station the staff go out of their way to make you feel special.
We were the only westerners during our stay which we loved.
Yakutas, informal kimono are provided for wearing around the hotel and almost everyone wears one.
We booked the included dinner and breakfast and it was exceptional. A lot of food and a wonderful opportunity for the adventurous to try new things. The meal has really been a highlight from an already pretty awesome holiday.
We used an app called kuli kuli to translate menus and deepl for translating spoken messages to communicate with the staff. The vast majority only speak Japanese - as we are in Japan we had no issue with that and do not expect English to be spoken when we travel. That said check in was carried out in perfect English.
The gardens are quite beautiful and we highly recommend spending a night or two here to relax.
We did not explore the surrounding area or use the onsen as we have tattoos and did not have tattoo covers with us. This did not in anyway detract from our stay.”
