Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

New ZealandIt is “out of town” - although this did mean there was parking. Our issue was with the village which is pretty but inaccessible to anyone with mobility challenges - steep streets, uneven steps.
Good views of the village across the river. Good value for money. An excellent restaurant that was very close.

FranceThe smell of the bathroom was awful. I recommend not to rent the deluxery room until the problem is fixed. The other rooms do not seem to have this problem. A hair dryer would be useful
The kitchen, the living room with the fire in the evening, the decoration, the helpfulness of Nelson, the kindness that we could leave our bikes in a safe room

PortugalWe booked this place because of their restaurant across the road as we didn't want to walk into town. There was no indication on their website that it would be closed....the fact that it was slightly spoilt our stay

United KingdomAs a budget bikepacker, this room was priced higher than my average. Room was smaller than stated. Bathroom was rather small
Lovely out of the way location looking across the river to Mertola on the hill. Old world charm in all the rooms. Compact bedroom beautifully furnished.

SpainThe only tiny little thing was that the stove wasn’t working properly for 20 minutes when we needed it but then it started working again.
Very nicely decorated, warm, cosy, organised and clean.

United KingdomLovely place, lovely owners. The food in the restaurant is amazing and the local white wine is a must! We had a lovely spread waiting for us when we arrived after midnight (late flight, enormous queues at Sixt). Thank you for your hospitality and your care! Mértola itself is a little gem! It’s like that old Portugal from books and films — certainly worth exploring!

PortugalOur room was quite small but was perfectly adequate for our short stay. That said, we did have a fair amount of luggage with us!
This beautifully renovated building is full of charm and original features, including a huge chimney in the lounge. Our window overlooked an orange grove, giving the impression of a framed painting. The shared kitchen and dining facilities were well equipped and we were lucky we didn't have to share them with anyone during our short stay. The host is a lovely friendly lady who we bumped into several times during our two-day stay. There was available parking just a few metres away down the hill but there is no parking outside the property itself (other than for drop offs). The short walk across the bridge to Mertola didn't bother us (possibly just over one kilometre) but some people might prefer to drive.

AustriaNo complaints at all, just a small comment that the private bathroom was rather small.
A warm and efficient welcome, a very nicely restored house, spotlessly clean and adequately furnished room, good airconditioning, and good shared kitchen facilities and sitting room. Good restaurant just two minutes walk away.

BelgiumThere really is a huge issue with noise. I don't mind some noises for this price, but I've never was able to literally hear everything from the neighbours as if they would sit next to me. The rooms have very very nice doors, but they don't block any noise. They do realize it is a flaw, but in my opinion they have to take care of it urgently.
Casa da Tia is a very nice guesthouse with an incredible atmosphere. The rooms are nice, the beds perfect, the lightning, wifi, ... very good. Staff helps out where they can, there is a restaurant nearby from the same owner, the view on Mértola (15 min walk) incredible and I appreciate the fact that we can use the kitchen.

I loved this place! The owners have put a great deal of effort into the decorative aspect. It felt really homely. Great little kitchen and living room. Wish i had been able to stay longer. Nice leg stretch walk into town..only took 10 minutes. Very quiet. Orange grove view from my room. Room also smelt amazing..Very clean. Much appreciated stay while cycle touring the region.
