Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceA little bit faraway from attractions around, the Japanese breakfast is not so good (dinner is cool !), the hotel is a little bit old, and not so clean as Japanese ryokan should be usually… and a part of the personal is not so friendly … but another part is kind…
Nice private Onsen, Japanese Dinner good (not excellent but good..!). It’s really a good value (100€ each / 200€ for a couple, for a big room / dinner / breakfast / private Onsen 1h).

United KingdomThere was no dinner option at the hotel and only one restaurant open in town. We asked why we couldn't have dinner in the hotel and he said there wasn't enough space for everyone in the hotel to dine despite it being advertised as a place with a dinner option.
It's a cute hotel, the private onsen was nice and the robes and slippers were a lovely touch. The rooms are large and the outside shower was lovely.

GermanyThe room only had a toilet and sink so no private option for showering, however the private onsen is a good and fairly priced alternative. We didn't see any information that vegetarian menus are an option so at the first dinner all of us got the normal menu, however when mentioning it, it was possible from the next morning onwards for our friend who was vegetarian. The food itself is very fish heavy, I personally didn't like it, two of my friends loved it.
The private onsen (3300¥/45min) was a really cool experience and totally worth the money, the room itself seemed older but in general as expected of a traditional Japanese stay. The food (dinner and breakfast) had a great variety and were more than filling. Free drinks were provided in the lobby until 7pm and prices at the vending machines and gift shop are also fair.

ChinaI have uncomfortable feelings when the gentleman of front desk asked me to self-check in and then disappeared. No one gave me room keys and room info till I found a key needed. And the second morning, front desk mistook my breakfast time and call me 2 hour earlier in the morning(7:00AM), and then rudely said SORRY and hung up the phone.
Onsen was good especially the private one (got to pay and reserve in front desk); I like the lobby as it’s pretty much the same as I imagine-quiet, traditional style and with good facilities.

United StatesMy wife had been hesitant about about public baths so having the option to reserve a private bath was great for her and she really enjoyed the onsen!
This was the quintessential ryokan experience for foreigners and we really enjoyed it! From the onsen to the yukata to the dinner/breakfast and the awesome tatami mat rooms, everything was a great experience! The staff were super friend, patient and helpful despite our limited Japanese language skills.

CanadaIt would be nice to have checked with guests for any allergies at check in, as one dish had peanuts. Also, the onsen is not very hot, and no hot water from the sink in the hotel room.
The hotel is situated at a very convenient location - 2min walk from Naka Gora station and it offers shuttle services from Gora station. Google map doesn’t show the most convenient way of getting there so we were intimidated at first, but turned out if you buy the Hakone free pass and take the cable car, it’s only 2min walk from Naka Gora station. We enjoyed the onsen, the free yukatas, and the traditional dinner and breakfast. Very good service and free coffee and sake at the lobby!

United KingdomThe property feels a bit dated - holes in the wooden bath tub were filled in, there was a leak in the corridor. The price felt a bit high for the overall state of the property,
