Be ready that foot is quite special. Also we were expected more ascetic stay, the place is very modern and comfortable.

Perfect experience of staying with monks. Rooms are very authentic, as well as dinner/breakfast. We attended the evening executions to the cemetery and morning ceremony. It was awesome!

Bathroom and toilet were separate from the room, but this was expected and not a big issue.

An unforgettable and peaceful experience at a unique accommodation. Great service from the moment we arrived, very clean facilities and enjoyable vegetarian meals. Morning prayers and the cemetery night tour are both recommended.

As I said, the schedules are tight so be aware this is not an ordinary accommodation.

Beautiful temple where you can enjoy Otsutome morning ceremony. There's free parking and the location it's just in front of the main temple. There's also a convenience store close to the accommodation. I recomend this Shukubo only for people who know where they are going and are willing to enjoy the spiritual experience. It's not a hotel, therefore you don't decide when to check in, when to have dinner or when to wake up.. Also, since it's a traditional concept there's only sento style bathroom, which means the shower room is shared. All meals are vegetarian in the Shojin ryori buddhist style. If you are willing to enjoy the traditional Japan, this is definitely your place.

The single beds are quite firm. I’m ok with a futon on tatami but futon on slat bed base is firmer.

It was a wonderful experience! We stayed one night and saw the three world heritage sights as the property is in town. We got up early and experienced morning prayers and chanted with the monks. I loved the sesame tofu and the suite with its own toilet. Definitely recommend this place

Absolutely beautiful stay. Had a cute zen garden and monks spoke very good English. They were accommodating and food was excellent. Enjoyed the morning ceremony too. They offer an evening meditation as well which was lovely. Highly recommend this stay.

Greeting staff seemed a little off putting we didn’t get our welcome tea Beds were removed while we were at morning ceremonies so even though we were back in the room by 8:00 and had till 10 to checkout… we felt pushed to just get out

Nothing - remember it is not a hotel ! It is a Temple!

So beautiful and serene. Lovely one-night stay. Cute rooms (Japanese / Monk style); quiet place with a reasonable number of guests. Peaceful setting, well maintain. Enjoyed the hot baths. Vegetarian meals (very enjoyable). The Monk spoke a really good English. The morning religious service was a really good experience This was by far my favourite area of my trip around Japan. The area is so calm and relaxed and the temples beatiful.

Everything. Amazing experience. The room was big and comfy. The heater came in clutch bc it was definitely cold at night. We slept like babies thanks to this. The staff were lovely and helped us figure out how to tour the cemetery at night and even tho we didn’t book the dinner they were able to accommodate our breakfast request. It was lovely partaking in the early morning ceremony. Our experience in Koyasan was def one of our trip’s highlights.

Highlight of our month-long Japan journey. Very clean, perfectly located and magical experience. I was able to attend prayer services, go hiking the pilgrimage trail and copy sutra during our three night stay. Food was excellent and the monks were very helpful and accomodating.

The onsen was amazing! The food was gorgeous too and getting to participate in the morning ceremony was good. If you’re coming in the winter months, do remember to wrap up warm!

the opening times of the shower room were a little restrictive, but i understand it’s probably for good reason

it was an incredible experience to join in with the morning prayer, it made the trip to koyasan for me.
