Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThe river is very noisy but it is a natural sound so we managed to mentally block it so we had no issue sleeping.
The renovated rooms combined the modern with the traditional. It was very spacious, the hot spring tub in the room was a big plus, but we also made use of the free private baths. The food served was with high quality ingredients and with a lot of variety, although for an european some dishes are very strange. Nevertheless it was an experience worth trying. The area around is very beautiful and peaceful.

United StatesTo get to the property you have to take a bus from Shuzenji which is only serviced by a local train from Mishima. Takes a long time to get there and back—governed by a train/ bus schedule. I recommend that you go to the Shuzenji information office in Shuzenji Station and have them call for shuttle service at Yugashima. I didn’t. The road to the onsen was fairly busy when I used it and it’s narrow and slippery in spots. It rained when I was leaving so I was lucky to have the shuttle take me to the bus stop. There are no signs in English showing you the way, even the hotel sign was in Japanese. The main road runs through the middle of the town and there weren’t many shopping areas. It was difficult to get to the baths and dining areas at first because they were at the end of the corridors and down some steps I had to use the map they’d given me or I’d get lost.
It was rural—next to nature. In an onsen region of Shuzenji. Next to a rushing river. Eat outdoors on a balcony next to the river. Chef/ food was excellent- plentiful Japanese cuisine . Staff was courteous and friendly. Room was large—Japanese style. If your bedding was too hard you could add another layer from the closet. It had unique bathing areas—you could stay indoors or bathe indoors and walk outdoors to either a bamboo grove or a tree, river scene hut where you could soak.

United StatesPrivate bathhouses can be a bit bigger as well as expanded. It was still great, as they provided a live status feed to see if it was occupied or not, with no extra charge to use.
The staff was absolutely amazing and attentive. We had a great view of the river from our room balcony. We had both the breakfast and dinner and it was amazing as well as the atmosphere around the meal with the amazing view of the river. We will definitely return in the future.

GermanyThere is not much around, you have to drive a long distance to most of Izu's attractions. The main onsen is a little bit plain for such a high-level hotel.
Great room overlooking the river, great variety of private onsens and a huge breakfast while sitting next to the river. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Izu.

United StatesThe 5-course meal was a lot of food. A couple of the courses, such as the fish, could have been better. Some of the private baths were out of the way to get to and not as convenient or as nice as the in-room bath.
Fantastic room size and a wonderful view of the river. The bathroom was top-notch. Staff was also very friendly and accomodating.

JapanYou’ll need a car to enjoy outside dining options. But the property offers good meals as well.
Gorgeous forest location by the river and beautiful onsen facilities. Clean and comfortable. The tatami rooms with private onsen are recommended for a full experience. Restaurant by the river is also pretty magical. Recently renovated rooms are wonderful.

SingaporeThe dining area was open air and there were a lot of insects including bees. Same for the outdoor private onsens. It was no issue for me for the smaller insects but the buzzing bees was kind of unnerving. I also did find that overall, the food was above average at best compared to other ryokans I have stayed in the past. But that said, taste is a personal preference. Another small matter was when the ryokan contacted prior to my stay to ask for any dietry restrictions, I had told them the item I do not eat. They replied that they do not serve that. But guess what, during dinner. One of the items was that particular ingredient.
Quiet and had 4 private onsens available for use. Rooms were big and comfortable, with good amenities. Very friendly staff as well.

The hotel staff was super nice and helpful. One of my friends forgot his ear-pods in the room and we had left Izu. The hotel staff quickly helped to send the ear-pods to our new hotel. Good view at the mountain and the stream from the room window. 4 private onsens for reservation and 1 public one. The futons are comfortable for sleep. The traditional Yukata was offered during the stay.

United KingdomTatsuta Ryokan is quite possibly the most incredible place we've ever stayed in (and we've travelled a lot!). Our room was impeccably clean, comfortable and beautiful. We had a private Onsen in our room which was just perfect. The food (kaiseki) was delicious and plentiful, as were the breakfasts. Sitting by the river during our meals added to the experience. The staff were all so incredibly hospitable and friendly. You can enjoy various Onsens throughout your stay. We've never felt so clean in our lives! The area is very calm and makes a nice break after a few hectic days in Tokyo. The surrounding landscape is so beautiful and there are lots of lovely walking routes. We would 100% recommend this Ryokan and we will definitely return. Thank you Tatsuta for making our honeymoon so memorable! :)

SingaporeNot the easiest location to reach (had to take Shinkansen from Tokyo, changed to a local train, then bus), however the tourist information staffs were friendly and helpful hence not too much difficulty. Otherwise the Ryokan was perfect
I went during weekday and it was off peak season according to the staff, hence it was very quiet (literally around 4 stayers in total). I was able to enjoy all the facilities without any problem. The Ryokan was very clean, quiet and with my room right next to a river, I felt an immense zen feeling. The staffs were very thoughtful too who was able to pick me up from the nearest bus station We also get to have Kaiseki dinner by the river! What an experience
