Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

LithuaniaThe hotel is extremely hard to reach in the later evening. As we arrived late we were too late to book breakfast and hotel staff could not do anything about it, no help even if we agreed with some very simple breakfast like cooked egg. The facilities in the room are working just fine but really old. Smaller onsen is poor. Hot stone spa is not a spa, it's just any overheated hamam. Dinner that was kinda costly was poor other than initial few dishes (bento was amazing and as always fish is great in Japan, but Waugh was non edible, extremely chewy, final dish was pasta and rice just to fill us up with something I guess. Personnel speaks close just a very few words in English. There is only one shop and very few places to eat in proximity. Disappointed in general thus we moved to other hotel in Hakone.
The room was clean and spacious. Private Jakuzzi was extremely nice, nite that it is due to reservation and additional payment, first part of kaiseki dinner (due to additional payment) was nice but then it went a bit of downhill. The bigger onsen is nice (onsens are being rotated between male and female each morning).

IsraelThere was a loud screeching noise in the dining room. You can get there with a bus, but I would recommend using a car as its a long walk from the bus stop (especially if its raining)
The attention to detail from the moment we checked in. The room was huge with a beautiful view and an outdoor hot tub. The food was amazing.

United StatesThe temperature of the outdoor Onsen tubs are not adjustable, so bringing cold water from the tap, in the shower bucket may be recommended, if the heat is too intense.
The Japanese are fond of very stiff beds and futons. If you are a fan of the soft pillow top mattresses found in the west, this will likely be the most comfortable bed you find in the country.

United StatesThe staff went above and beyond my expectations. To start, I had a lot of questions and concerns prior to the stay, even up to the day before! All of my questions were answered as swiftly as possible (given the time difference). When even I was in Japan, they replied within the next few hours! I should also note that I used both English and machine translated Japanese to make things a bit easier. The rooms were fantastic! I had 3 rooms booked, one with an outside bath (not onsen), one with an onsen, and a regular room. The regular room looked like a regular western hotel room (NOT a japanese business hotel room so you actually have space to move around!). The room with the onsen is in a separate building across the street. The onsen can fit 2 people comfortable and has a nice view of a private garden. The room is also quite spacious with a living room area. The room with the outdoor bath is the biggest of the 3 we booked. The bath was large enough for a single person to stretch out and take a nap. I was the only to use the bath so I can't say how many people can fit comfortably. In terms of the other facilities, there's two public onsens (public in the sense that any guest can use it). There's a large and "small" bath, separated by men and women and rotated throughout the day. While knowing the kanji for men and women would generally be useful, the colored banners reflect which one is which and the large onsen is labeled. The "small" onsen isn't really small. It can comfortable fit a good amount of people. It's small in the sense that the larger one has 2 onsens, one of the same size and one that's smaller but also outside. I personally like the outside onsen. The restaurant is spacious and wasn't overcrowded (I'm guessing there's multiple dinner times). The dinner and breakfast menus were absolutely delicious! Lastly, the staff are super accommodating!

ItalyI personally give a mediocre vote to the service. For some reason, we were really late for the checkout. I emailed the hotel twice throughout the day, but there was never an answer. The man who checked us in was really nice. However, he didn't tell us we had to reserve breakfast for the day after. So we missed it. When we checked out, the man was kinda rude. Good experience, but for the price and Japanese standards, I expected better.
The facility was stunning. We had the king-size room with our private little onsen outside. Mountain wiew, we couldn't ask for more. If you have tattoos, you are not allowed into the shared bath. Room deserves a 10.

GermanyNothing to complain.
Very nice hotel, you get a welcome drink when you check in, the dinner is very much a recommendation from our site. Delicious and a nice event. If you stay there, book the dinner! The onsen is small but hot and clean. The rooms are clean and beautiful. Not the largest, but large enough. The staff is helpful and friendly. We would stay there again. We stayed in more expensive hotels in that area which where much worse in terms of service and quality of... everything.

AustraliaThe onsen baths that are available for guests staying at there aren't a variety of bath options. We had our own in our room on the balcony.
The location is remote to 30mins drive from Hakone. It was a really peaceful place, no kids were staying as it is adult only. Mostly couples staying, we selected to have breakfast and dinner during our stay as there isn't a lot of options available in the area.Food was really good.

United KingdomWe were a bit worried before we went that it is a little out of the way so a bit of effort was required to get there via public transport from Tokyo - 2 trains and a local bus - but it was very easy to do the journey using google maps and the journey was part of the fun! And it was ABSOLUTELY worth the effort to get there, this place was just wonderful.
Could not have loved this place more, it was the highlight of our whole trip. Amazing comfy bed with a lovely view. In the morining I had a relaxing soak in the lovely private bath on my balcony, which was surrounded by trees and birds singing, as the sun came up - absolutley perfect. Lovely traditional breakfast! The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Several of them spoke very good English. We paid to have a kaiseki dinner at the hotel and this was a wonderful experience - amazing food and we had such a lovely evening. Wish we could have stayed at this place for a week!
