Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThere is nothing we did not like. One suggestion could be to have a body lotion dispenser for after the bath in addition to all the other toiletries.
This traditional Ryokan is incredibly beautiful. It has well-kept beautiful old buildings equipped with all desired modern amenities and wonderful onsen. But the very best thing about our stay was the service. The staff really give it their very best. They helped us so much with transportation troubles due to a typhoon and the chef prepared the most delicious and beautiful Kaiseki (traditional dinner) and breakfast.

AustraliaThere is nothing that could have enhanced our stay.
I could write a novel about the excellence of Sanso Tensui and it's staff. From the moment we arrived at the train station and were welcomed, to seeing the property and being awe struck, to checking in and seeing our room, and everything in between, we were absolutely in love with Sanso Tensui and glad we decided to stay here. The onsen (private and public) are incredible. Many are near waterfalls or are immersed in nature. I spent many hours in the baths, or reading on the patio surrounded by nature. Every staff member was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The food was incredible, not just in taste but in presentation. I honestly am so overwhelmed with how incredible it was that I don't even know what else to write. All I can say, I wish I could stay there forever. It was the perfect way to relax, unwind and refresh my brain. I can't wait to come back.

GermanyThis was an actual 10/10 stay. The hotspring baths are amazing, the rooms are beautiful, the staff goes above and beyond and the food is quite the experience. If you come here i would also recommend checking out the bar. The bartender is very nice and made us some amazing cocktails. I can recommend his "rose petal mojito".

South KoreaNothing. If I had to say, a amount of dinner was a little bit too much, so I couldn't finish it.
I would like to have left a review letter but I forgot because I was pressed for flight time. So I leave my review here: Overall, it was all great. Room condition, onsen(condition and number of), food, staff. I've been to ryokan a few times, this ryokan was better than I expected. Actually it kept on raining during my stay. Usually, I don't like rainy days but I've change my mind-a scenery of rainy day have a charm of its own, it does. Sitting in the open-air bath and watching the rain-soaked mountain and valley was rest and relaxation I imagined. I'll recommend to my friends that Sanso Tensui will be best choice for get away from hustle and bustle. It was a little difficult to get there, but it was worth it.

SwitzerlandThank you for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. A dreamlike ryokan nestled in the middle of a small gorge surrounded by lots of forest. The onsen were a dream with a direct view of the river and forest. The varied and diverse food in the evening and morning was fantastic. The staff were very helpful and could fulfil our every wish. The pick-up service from the train station was also great. We can only warmly recommend the Ryokan to anyone who wants to forget everyday life. This is exactly the right place.

South KoreaThis place is just amazing. Located in a deep valley, so I felt like I was completely isolated from civilization. It was a perfect getaway trip. The staff is super kind and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. It has so many onsen pools, and they all have an amazing view looking at the stream. Even the bartender was such a lovely guy and served many good Japanese whiskeys. I am definitely going back!

Hong KongAbsolutely Nothing * Just in case you travel there in the winter season, make sure to get the winter gear for the car.
A big thanks to all the staffs. They are super helpful and friendly. Basically they take care everything since you step foot into the Ryokan. It scored 11/10 on my list and most of the credit goes to the staffs. We spent two nights there, and all the Kaiseki meals are exceptional, from the quality of food, to how they present it. They show case the best of the best. One of my sister is a vegan, the chef did an amazing job to prepare the vegan meal too. I admire the interior the most. The building integrate with the mountain, you can truly enjoy the nature and escape from the crowd. Besides the in-room Onsen, there are several Onsens that you can view the waterfall near by. Got to try everyone of them :)

it was fantasic because it’s close to nature! we could hear waterfalls and the room was great and clean! we got to try three out of five of the family spa onsen and it was a nice onsen experience, albeit it was a bit hard going into the onsen for the first time since it was winter and it was chilly outside! the kaiseki buffet was a wonderful piece of art and delicacy at the same time!
