Very nice staff, very nice stay! Room was clean and comfortable, easy access to the many mustsee palces in Kyoto and also bus stops and metro stations to go to other. Sadly I didn’t have time for tea ceremony, but as the idea it is great welcoming gesture.

Nothing, we got what we expected.

Very authentic, great experience of traditional style living, with Tatami floors and futon beds. The welcoming ceremony with matcha and cookies was very enjoyable! Reception workers were very friendly, polite, helpful and enthusiastic. Special thank you to Nishmi, who told us a lot about Kyoto and Japan, gave us useful tips and recommendations, and was very nice to have a chat. :)

    None

It was very cozy but this is great for a solo traveler. What really makes a 10/10 was the staff. Omgosh the staff were extremely friendly and had amazing recommendations. I would say stay here if you want a traditional Japanese style stay and to get great recommendations on where to go. This location isn’t too far from the main strip of shopping and it was about 6 min walk to Nishiki Market. There’s plenty to do around there. Oh and they have free sake on the house too. I will definitely return and recommend.

Leaving Saju and the wonderful staff

We liked everything about Saju Kyoto, the staff were amazing and so helpful. The rooms we spotlessly clean and everything you need, even though they are small it was perfect for us. The mattresses were a little thinner than normal but was no problems as they bought and extra one up to double it up and made for a perfect sleep. Free sake tasting and shaved ice was also a bonus, can't recommend Saju enough, would return in a heartbeat.

No elevators so be careful if you have a lot of heavy luggage!

Exceptional hospitality - it felt like I was at a homestay instead of the hotel. We were provided a tea ceremony upon arrival, as well as free sake tasting, shaved ice, and fan painting. The rooms were small but comfortable. I liked it so much we stayed an extra night!

Since it's a ryoken there are no elevators but the staff were super helpful in helping with the luggage. Recommend to travel light if you are in Kyoto for a short period of time.

Great location, only a few minutes walk to the market. The receptionist was excellent; the tea ceremony exceeded our expectations. The ability to store luggage before and after check-in was wonderful. Just a great place to experience traditional Japanese accommodations.

I still mark goood rate for this place because there are just very few small things - No elevator for heavy suitcase (mine is small thats ok) -> I think they are heading to traditional style - Narrow toilet :) no problem for me

Depends on everyone 's purpose and like to do here in Kyoto, you will have different thoughts For me, this place satisfied at: - Traditional style - Bed wide enough for two people (even thought toilet is rather narrow for big person, but thats fine for me) - I can walk to Nishi Fish Market, Gion Corner, Don Qijote , Takashimaya, Tiger Otsunika, Karasuma station and bus stop connect directly to Kinkaku , Arashiyama Bamboo right at the big road just 8 600-800M only - Especially they are close to Currency Exchange which show reasonable rate equal to when I transfer at my country - The staffs all are well trained and super nice, they tell me where to do and what to eat ... I like that

Had an amazing short stay in a hotel. Staff is extremely nice, helpful and polite. It doesn’t feel like a hotel. It feels like home! Bota is an amazing hotel manager. She made my stay 10 out of 10. She was so sweet !

Honestly, this was the best check-in and the most friendly employees I've ever experienced in a hotel environment. The hosts were both so wonderful and accommodating. The room made it feel like an authentic Japanese experience and just added to the beauty of the trip and our time in Kyoto.

I could hear some minor sounds from the hallway and outside the window, but they were not too disturbing. If you are sensitive to small noises, you should be aware of this. Otherwise, it was a very satisfying experience.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and the hotel's location was convenient for both bus and subway access, making it easy to reach popular attractions. We particularly enjoyed the welcome cookies and tea ceremony, which added a special touch to our stay. Also, although it may seem like a minor detail, my sister and I liked the high-quality amenities provided, (shampoo and conditioner) which were from a premium brand not commonly found in 2-4 star Japanese hotels.
