Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsI woke up at 5 because they have inexplicably lightproofed/blinded all the windows except the one on the east side. So at sunrise around 5AM my room was suddenly flooded with sunlight (the picture attached is around 5:30-6:00).
Staff were friendly, outside bathing. Food was good.

United StatesFood. I was unexpected the high quality but decent. But compared with traditional 和食,it was disappoint of the joyful.
Neat but clean can be improved. Because I had variety allergies(non related about foods) woke up with nasal obstruction at midnight.

United Kingdommattress really not comfy on the floor. Had better futon in other places in Japan.
Best breaky and dinner I had in my 16 days first visit to Japan varying from 8 to 14 small plates to taste. proximity to cable car and japanese room experience. had a high table with regular chair for breaky and dinner.. can't take floor eating, sleeping and japanese box table with no room for long legs ... this was the tough part for North American not used to this flexibility!

JapanThe mattresses were not very comfortable, but I guess it depends on what have you gotten used to. I've had more uncomfortable beds in some hotels in Europe too. Dinner and breakfast are very fine, traditional japanese meals and pickier people might find it difficult to find much for their liking. Price was somewhat higher than for another onsen we stayed at Hakone
Location was fairly easy to reach by public transportation and a little bit of walking. We got a separate house for a family of five, slept on mattresses on the floor in the same room. Spacious.

United StatesThe fact that booking quoted a price for four people and sent non refundable bill for only two people. Forcing us to pay an additional $350. This made it impossible to choose another hotel at a more reasonable rate. I will avoid using booking.com in the future.

FranceNo info about shuttle bus or dinner/breakfast time on booking. The onsens were very small, we only went to the 24h one, since it was bigger but quickly crowded in the women one. The screens in between tables to have privacy when you eat, are really not necessary and were really dirty. The buildings are old and need a renovation especially the carpeting.
The staff was really really nice, the food was good, the place was nice and calm and the room was really pretty !

CanadaLocation isn't great if you want to do the Hakone loop. The hotel is mid way on the cable car section near Gora. Because they trains only run 9-4, you get stuck in the middle of the larger crowds and likely won't get seats. If you return to pick up your luggage you have to make a long backtrack. There is very little open in terms of shops and restaurants, and what is there is high price and middling quality. Kaiseki meal was so-so. Chicken and tofu felt like a bit cheaper meal for the price, and nothing really exceptional compared to similar hotel stays. Information on food/dinner wasn't clear ahead of time. Hard to communicate allergies. I don't think they fully understood the concept of allergies and it was surprising just how many dishes they could fit shellfish into.
Luggage storage for the day. Plenty of access to hotel's own onsens (2 public, 1 private) Room was big, quiet, and decent view (though window heavily needs a clean) We were in the annex building. Many others have commented that it was not nice, but our room and building experience was generally clean and fairly well kept.

United StatesThe staff didn't speak a whole lot of English, which was fine for me because I can get by with Japanese, but might make it harder for English speakers to make special requests.
The included meals for breakfast and dinner were amazing!! I got to try so many things I never would have before, they serve you an entire course menu for that day. The onsen also was fantastic, they have both male and female indoor onsen and a private indoor onsen we used as well for no additional charge. There were other onsen available too! Also, when checking out they offered to drive us to Gora station for free, which was much appreciated. It sounds like they're willing to come drive to pick you up from the station to check in too!

GermanyThe room is huge, the dinner and breakfast are delicious and the onsen are amazing (and they are open 24hs, so even if you don't manage to get a spot in the private onsen, if you go later at night to the public one, you can still enjoy some solo time)

Japantoo much food provided in the dinner & breakfast courses. you should offer a menu with less items for people who do not each such a large quantity of food. it will also reduce food loss, an SGD.
