Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaLove it. Super friendly hosts who helped us a lot, offered to pick us up, take us to hire gear at echoland (with discount at affiliated store), take us to deliver our luggage and send us to the station upon checking out. Booked restaurants for us too since we didn't have a local phone number. Thank you so much! Great accommodation, very cosy and nice atmosphere, vending machine inside, 2 onsen rooms (one of which has an outdoor onsen too, very nice in the snow) which can be used privately by booking each day. Drying room for ski gear is very convenient. Short walking distance (<5 min) to free local bus stop to goryu, happo, iwatake and also to echoland base camp for the hakuba valley shuttle. Buses only run a few each day and finish pretty early, best to not miss the last one as getting a taxi can be a pain! Breakfast needs to be booked by 10am from the previous day, but it's amazing, highly recommended.

AustraliaThe beds were memory foam mattresses, which made it a little uncomfortable at first.
The perfect place to stay in Hakuba! The beautiful lodge was in a quiet street just off the main strip in Echoland, which was the best spot close to great restaurants and bars, gear hire and the free shuttle buses to get you to different resorts. The owners were incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home, even picking us up from the bus station and dropping us off. The highlight of our stay were definitely the on-site onsens - it was the perfect way to end a huge day on the slopes.

AustraliaEverything is great. The owners Mitoko and Tsune always smiling.
No Breakfast. The place was different to what we expected but our hosts made our stay very enjoyable and helped with transport to and from the Happo-one Bus Terminal. The onsets were fantastic and even though the place is out of the way it is within walking distance of Shuttle buses and Food outlets. Located with forest views.

AustraliaWe stayed in the delux apartment and it was absolutely AMAZING! It was the highlight of our Japan trip! Sitting in the private hot tub in our apartment, with the window open looking out to the snowy rice fields was A DREAM! The whole apartment was great, had everything we needed and spacious. Beds were very comfy, intact the comfiest ones from our whole Japan trip. The private onsens you can book were beautiful! The hosts were very lovely too, always smiling and welcoming you. We will definitely be back at Pension Tomato for another winter trip!

AustraliaNothing. They’ve thought of everything. For people staying multiple days, use the ear plugs provided if you (like me) require a sleep in on some days. They work.
I was travelling for work in Hakuba and this accom was beautifully presented, the owners are wonderful people and the facilities are immmaculate. The dual onsen is a wonderful touch, after a hard days work I found myself in the onsen at 10PM most nights, as well as again at 8AM the following morning.

AustraliaThe beds were a little bit uncomfortable, but other than that everything was great.
The chalet is beautiful and in a perfect, central location. Both hosts were super friendly and helped us at any time with whatever we needed. They even gave us a lift to the bus port on check out day, really early in the morning. The onsens in the main building are absolutely stunning and well maintained, and very easy to book. Highly recommend this stay, thank you for having us😊

AustraliaNothing in relation to the property. The room is a bit tight with luggage but very manageable.
It has been almost 6 weeks since we stayed there and I have been thinking what a wonderful place it was to stay. The hospitality, the private onsen , the breakfast all superb. It is a short walk to restaurants, bars and transport to the slopes. The hosts were so helpful throughout our stay, so kind in helping us in different ways, including transport, helping find lost property, helping when one of my family had an injury and more. The hot onsens were just beautiful , clean and in incredible setting.

New ZealandWe loved our stay at Pension Tomato. The host was really kind and picked us up from the train station in Hakuba. Along with this, when dropping us off after our stay, he stopped at the Yamato centre so we could send ski bags to the next accomodation, a huge help. We stayed in the 6 bunk lodge, fantastic. The amenities were very, very clean and comfortable. The shower was excellent. Spacious enough, with a nice area to relax in and kitchen bench to make easy meals. We also utilised the in-house onsens - a great choice as they were incredibly relaxing and peaceful after a ski, really clean and nice tranquil forest views. There are multiple, bookable for mixed or non-mixed onsens. The breakfast which you book the day before is great too. A few minutes walk from the main echoland strip and rental place for ski/snow gear. That’s where shuttles for Happo-One and Hakuba 47 stop too, so convenient to get to the mountains in the morning.

AustraliaOur room had futons which after a pounding day skiing are a little thin. Thankfully we were able to use the extra blankets to soften the experience.
Clean, comfortable, bungalow facilities, Netflix, washer/dryer, heating beautifully warm. The onsens were great after a day skiing. Owner picked us up from train station and dropped us off at the end of our stay.

AustraliaThe cabin had futons rather than western beds. Harsh to say we didn't like them, but rather they just took some getting used to as they are not the same as the futons we have in Australia. Actually, the rest of my family were fine - I was probably the only princess that struggled a bit with the firmness!
The location of this property was outstanding. A short walk to Echoland and all its great restaurants, etc and super close to bus stop to mountain. We were in their self-catered cabin (I believe there is lodge accomm as well) and we loved that it was well equipped with just about everything we needed. Proprietors were fantastic - couldn't do enough for us and helped us with sending luggage, advice, picked us up and dropped us to train/ bus station. Last, but not least, the private onsens on property were wonderful, especially after a day on the slopes! We would stay again without question.

AustraliaOur family opted for the cabin at the side of the main house which unlike the main house- has futon beds which were authentic but as newbies to this quite thin and uncomfortable for us
Loved the location. The hosts were so lovely and accomodating, even dropping us to the railway station at the end. The cabin we stayed in was warm and cosy and to the kids surprise even had netflix to wind down with after a full days skiing! WE ESPECIALLY LOVED THE PRIVATE ONSEN OVERLOOKING THE SNOWY FOREST- a highlight each evening.
