Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThe breakfast was not that good and the boiled eggs were super overcooked.
Good location right next to the train and bus station. The rooms are large and comfortable even though they are quite dated. The staff at the reception are very nice and welcoming. You can store luggage before and after checkout.

United KingdomThe breakfast was very unhealthy, no meat, mostly rice, margarine and vegetables. The beds were incredibly tiny, we booked the room with 2 single beds and they felt more like for children or adults under 50 kg
The location is very good, it’s just across the bus stop to the main attraction. The onsen was cozy too, quite basic but nice after a long day of walking

AustraliaNothing in particular. Nothing to do with the hotel, but the night-life and dining options somewhat subdued. We did visit in November, many venues closed early.
Great location opposite the station. Older property and larger than your typical Japanese hotel room. Exceptionally clean. Friendly and attentive staff. Very handy parking next to the hotel and also well priced with hotel discount.

United StatesIt's not the most modern accommodations, and the beds were the smallest and most uncomfortable on our entire trip. That being said, we still slept well enough. We found one too many stray, long black hairs on the floor in our room though...(no one in our party has long black hair).
It's important to have some perspective when rating this property. If you spent the entirety of your trip staying at flagship Marriott/Hilton in major metropolitan areas, you're going to have a bad time if you compare this location to those properties. That being said, for what it is, it's terrific for exploring Nikko. Our favorite part was the location; it's right off the Tobu and JR stations. Furthermore, it's right next to the bus stop for the world heritage site and Lake Chuzenji, making it extremely easy to get around. The staff was very friendly and spoke excellent English. Additionally, the breakfast was much more than we anticipated it to be and was very tasty (still a continental breakfast though).

ThailandThe breakfast is very poor. The spa is very little, I have to wait for taking a baht because there is only six seats to serve, and no any facilities in the spa room.
The location and the staff is OK.

United StatesReally great location right next to the bus/train stations. The easy access to public transportation was perfect for a shorter trip, and it was very walkable as well within Nikko! The room was spacious and the bed was really comfortable, and the onsen was a great way to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

Lovely Onsen, indoor and outdoor hot bath. Good breakky. Room and bed comfy, room roomy by Japanese standards. Nice to have a little table and chair setting. The staff were very helpful with directions and explaining facilities.

United StatesThe hotel’s building is a bit old. The bed was very very firm so it made it hard to sleep. The bathroom for some reason didn’t smell that good.
The location of the hotel was great. It was close to everywhere I needed to go. I was worried about going to the onsen but the staff was very informative. There’s an ice cream machine right outside of the onsen.

AustraliaOur spacious room was warm during our visit, and we were unable to control the air-conditioning as it was set centrally for the whole hotel. An additional towel rail in the bathroom would be helpful.
