Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaI did not booked dinner. No restaurant open in hotel. So I have to go to town. But not many restaurants open also. I was very sad… They should write no restrictions open in hotel…
Breakfast was very good.

United States of AmericaThe windows next to the pools, which were in need of cleaning. I would have loved to see the river more clearly from inside.
The baths were wonderful!I loved its location right next to the gorge with river along with hot springs you could see falling into the river. It was close to a small town where we found great food for lunch.

AustraliaI found some of the areas to be worn down and appeared dirty, as if a deep clean hasn’t occurred for a few years… There was a lot of dust beneath and around furniture.
The variety of Onsen and the wide range of available opportunities - Massage, private baths, food and drinks, table tennis, family rooms etc etc.

AustraliaThat we didn't book to stay here for longer.
Really good value Ryokan. Dinner was very nice with a really good range of traditional Japanese meals. The private rock onsen was so relaxing, right by the waterfall. The room was big, clean, neat. Coming back from dinner to the Futons and bedding set up was so nice. Really good view of autumn leaves, the flowing river and snow capped mountains right from our balcony. Breakfast was a very nice buffet with a good variety of Japanese and western options. We were pleasantly surprised by this ryokan, much better than expected and really well priced.

CanadaThe building seemed a bit run down and could use a few renovations. But it was clean and the room itself was well maintained, even if the facilities were dated.
The location was gorgeous, and the staff were always very helpful and friendly. There were a large variety of baths to choose from and the outdoor baths had nice views of the river. There were also nice walking paths in the village.

CanadaThis is a great hotel, which looks quite historical and it is painful that the upkeep seems to be lacking. The scuffed walls, damaged furniture in the hallways, chipped corners on the walls, waterstains on the ceilings...it all adds up. There is simply so much potential that is being wasted. The hotel shuttle service is good, but like the local train service, it is not very often and we struggled to get around in the area including to / from the hotel by ourselves. This location would be great if you have a (rental) car.
Great rooms in what looks like a former grand dame of a hotel. The location is good, with a beautiful roaring river running right next to it and quite close (10-15 min walk) to Minakami station. I tried the communal baths and they were exceptional and easily one of the best features of this hotel. Large hot baths on several levels with amethyst shell fountains, washing and drying stations including all the amenities you could need including hairbrushes, lotions, razors, hairdryers etc. A wooden open air bathtub with hot water on a cold night? Yes please! The breakfast in the dining room on the 7th floor was good too. A beautiful big room with large sparkling chandeliers and a green view on the hills. The buffet-style breakfast was nicely laid out with both Japanese and Western options, including warm cooked dishes and pretty little desserts. We tried about half of the offerings over 2 mornings and everything tasted great. The dining room staff's English was also really good, which is not something we take for granted in Japan! It also reminded me a little of the Overlook hotel (Stephen King's the Shining) with a faded haunted feel and I am here for it! I feel this hotel too could be the setting for a great story!

United States of AmericaNice old grand hotel and it is showing its age. But I was up there in mountains when it started to snow and going to spa was something magical. To be able to use the outdoor pool while it was snowing was a big star in vacation. Just not this place is old and has seen better days.

PortugalParts of the hotel are a little tired.
Whilst we were there our son forgot an article of clothing and the staff very kindly wrapped it up and sent them via post to our next destination which was incredibly kind and very much appreciated 🙏 Thank you once again. The massage chairs near the private Onsen were fantastic too.

JapanThe karaoke was unavailable which was disappointing, I think that should have been updated on the website. I wish there was an option to have different pillows. I also didn’t like how stuffy the rooms were, there was a lot of dust in the evening and the morning.
The dinner was a little disappointing but the presentation was nice, the breakfast had a large variety and was good. I liked being able reserve a time to play table tennis, I also really liked the cleanliness of the locker area and the bath. The store was nice and the free cafe area was a pleasant surprise as well. The futons in the room were very comfortable. The views were very beautiful in the high room.

Hong KongThe public areas in the hotel (e.g. lobby and corridors) are a big dated and have probably seen better times. The breakfast at the hotel was reasonable, but not great.
One of the larger hotels in Minakami, the room and the onsen facilities are in good condition. It is also quite close to the main onsen street where you can find restaurants too.
