Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoEverything was beautiful and I love to take the budist ceremony with the monks. This place is beautiful and quiet just what I was looking for after long trip. The staff was very nice and kind.

AustraliaIt would be great if guests were invited to learn about temple etiquette (common courtesy and manners!) upon arrival. There was a large group of travellers from Europe who arrived at the same time as us, they were watching videos on their phones with the sound up, smoking and talking loudly. Pretty disrespectful, not to mention a complete vibe-killer for everyone else.
Beautiful temple, lovely old room looking up at the hill. The monks were attentive and friendly. The vegetarian feast served in our room was absolutely delicious. It was raining torrentially and the rooms were cold but we were warm in our comfortable futon beds. Prayer ceremony in the early morning was a calming way to start the day.

United KingdomIt was winter and a bit cold in the room and the bathroom was freezing. So we allowed the bath to fill very hot water so the bathroom was like a sauna - and then it was useable!
Though I can’t rate the place for being luxurious, pampering or grand, it’s by far one of the most Memorable places we stayed in Japan. Don’t arrive late or you’ll miss the Kaiseki level vegetarian meal, which was overwhelming. Don’t miss the morning prayer either. It’s all an authentic experience even if you’re not spoilt. There are other hotels in Japan that do that.

AustraliaI now can't imagine going to Koyasan without a temple stay. Our room was gorgeous and had a view of a Japanese garden. The highlight was meditation, morning prayers and the beautiful breakfast and dinner.

CanadaShared washroom—a little walk from your room. Might be inconvenient for someone who needs to pee at night. It’s really not bad, just not as convenient as when it’s in your room.
The shared shower room with a huge hot tub. Not sure if it’s hot spring water, or just hot water. It was very nice.

SpainIt is so overcosted. I eally understand that is an unique experience, but I think the cost is not justified at all...
The experience is the best thing, definitely. If you want to live the full Japanse experience, you should definitely book a night in Koyasan. It was amazing to expend the night in a room inside the temple, with the classical clothes, food and so on. The morning pray was also a good experience to enjoy.

AustraliaJust feedback. We would have loved the fire ceremony explained more as there was lengthy dialogue in Japanese about it but none in English. It started before we were invited to move closer.
Our beautiful room. Saizen is across the road from major sightseeing. All the facilities were beautiful and well explained. Wonderful staff. Fire ceremony was fabulous.

Delicious food, friendly, attentive hosts and devoted monks. Clean, comfiest Japanese style room I have ever been in. Lovely views and great location despite it being in the middle of nowhere! Would come again, just wish I booked for two nights! It also snowed briefly whilst there to add to the already amazing experience. There were lots of optional activities like meditation and calligraphy.

AustraliaNothing. We loved our stay so much.
Everything from the check in process to the stay. The staff were extremely helpful, and the lodgings were just as beautiful as others in the area! The bedding was exactly the same as other shukubos, and the bonus kotatsu set up was so wonderful on a cold and rainy day. Travellers not used to the custom of a Japanese bath house (communal bathing in a gendered, open room) may feel turned off, but we had absolutely no problems keeping it simple and immersing ourselves in the culture.

We had a wonderful stay. The staff were very kind and professional. We recognized that the whole team, whether front or back, worked very hard to ensure all the guests have comfortable stay. We are grateful for their excellent services. We will definitely choose Saizenin as our choice of accomodation when we're in town.
