Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesAbsolutely nothing!
My idea of heaven-the beauty of the space with every detail perfectly thought out, the joy of relaxing, reading in a nurturing place( private cubbies or pillows in the pool), the delicious food so graciously individualized for my food allergies, the friendly staff, the children’s book maze and ball pool, the gifts of reusable mugs, the free snacks, drinks and ice cream, the special yukatas provided to wear during your stay, the private balcony onsen, the lovely village full of Onsen and sweet cafes( including a Philosopher’s one),the gorgeous mountain hikes a few minutes away, all combined for one of the most serene places we ever stayed and one that we were so reluctant to leave. Our deepest gratitude to all!

AustraliaThe check in is a little quirky…you dont check in at the hotel but an old geisha house that has been converted into a cafe/reception area….its hard to find but staff helped us…no problems…plus you get to explore the town
Loved the whole concept of the Ryokan. The private baths was exquisite, as well as the dinner ( highly recommend f- just an amazing experience of Japanese cuisine) . The property is located 15 min by taxi or 25 min by bus. (Get a taxi - approx cost is 3,500 yen or the bus from Matsumoto station to Yuzaka —-leave forms Platform 23..its bus number 30 or 31) ..We didnt want to leave the property. Lots to explore in the local neighbour. Must visit the Zen temple Buddhist temple that is nearby.

This is a unique hotel built in an old, traditional building with ultra modern design. The location is on the edge of greenery and the mountains, but there is plenty to walk round and see locally. The ground floor is a world class restaurant and a collection of 10,000 books on design, art, fashion, cookery, plants etc. With wonderful nooks and crannies to lose oneself in with a book. The onsen on the balcony with views over mountains with snow is fabulous. We decided to give the famous castle a miss and stay put in the ambience of the hotel!

United StatesThe layout of the hotel complex was so unique, integrated into the town, to encourage exploration. Beautiful architecture, warm and welcoming staff, so many thoughtful amenities. The room was surprisingly chic: we splurged on the private onsen, which was open to the trees outside. The bookstore was amazing, like a library from your childhood fantasies. Dinner was a tasting menu with local ingredients, generous and delicious. The best hotel experience of my life.

AustraliaMatsumoto JUJO was a very unique Japanese experience. This was a complete immersion into a very bespoke food journey both at breakfast each morning and dinner at night. Not only was the food meticulously prepared and presented but it was so special observing it being prepared and served. The staff were very helpful ( despite the language barrier at times) and went out of their way to support and help solve any problems or queries. The accommodation was very comfortable with a minimalist design in the room, very comfortable bedding, additional treats /drinks just outside your door and your own relaxing hot tub to relax in on your own enclosed balcony.

JapanNone, it was a perfect experience!
Everything was perfect, and that's no exaggeration! Matsumoto Jujo is not just a hotel; it has cafes, a bakery, a boutique, and more. And this is because they created the place to help rejuvenate the local region/town, Asama Onsen. Just this background story is already so moving and impressive. I stayed at the "Matsumoto Honbako" and there, they have originally an old communal bath which turned into an instagram-worthy library. I heard it's more than 10,000 books! The design of the place is too awesome! It's like brutalist structure but Scandinavian interior with Japanese elements here and there. I cannot really say much but I know for sure it's great design! Their dining place, "367" serves the freshest ingredients, especially the veggies!! Dinner is filling but it will not make you feel bloated or too full. Breakfast is the same and I liked that you get a lot of fresh bread - straight from their own bakery. Actually, you can buy most of the ingredients they use in their dishes at their boutique. I got myself some bottles of their original apple Juice. There were so many things to like: onsen bath at the veranda of my own room, free tumbler which you can refill with their original coffee, private reading nooks within bookshelves, free snacks in each floor, super comfy beds, amazing staff, Edo-style communal bath outside the hotel... the list goes on. I cannot wait to go back again!!

New ZealandNothing. Was incredible!!
Wow if you are looking for a luxury Japanese experience, this is it!! Our stay was exceptional from the get go. The traditional welcome was set in an beautiful historic house set apart from the hotel which was rather a surprise for us as we thought we had been taken to the wrong place. We were given champagne and oyaki cakes while the host explained our stay. Then a short walk (or they can shuttle you) up through the beautiful streets of Asama Onsen. The hotel itself is next level! Beds were so comfortable, snacks and cold drinks available 24/7, and the onsen on the deck was just divine. The bookshop/library is absolutely incredible. The breakfast and dinner is included -Not that we didn't like it as was a great experience and fabulously done on an open fire in restaurant - the food is very traditional so come with open mind and give it a go!! Hotel is situated outside of main central city so you do need to taxi to places which didn't bother us as was so worth it. Highly recommend. Was such a highlight of our trip.

JapanLocation is pretty far from central Matsumoto - so I think it’s more for people who want to be in the hotel / around the Asuma Onsen area. It’s also very pricey and we had some issues with the booking although I mainly thing that was the websites fault.
It’s very cool and unique. The rooms are comfy and the have great facilities. The restaurant looked good too although we didn’t eat there. The library was stunning.

AustraliaThere was very little - perhaps a slightly firmer pillow.
Amazing room with great views over the Japanese Alps. The top-floor room had its own private outdoor onsen which was fantastic - hot and relaxing. Our plan had dinner and breakfast included. The dinner was very good, all based on local-Nagano prefecture produce, though maybe they tried a little too hard with some of the dishes. Breakfast excellent, fresh bakery, homemade sausages, fresh salads and soups.

United StatesHotel is far from Matsumoto station and most other tourist attractions. Bus schedule is not very convenient and taxi fare is approx. 3,300 JPY one way.
Both dinner and breakfast offered at the Honbako restaurant were delicious and showcased local ingredients. Room and outdoor bath were well-appointed, and 24-hour access to the bookstore is a treat and even includes a selection of art/English books for foreign guests.
