Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe public bath was slightly chlorinated which i wasn’t expecting and you had to bring your own towel from the hotel room. Only minor though, I enjoyed my stay otherwise.
It was in a quiet residential area overlooking a river and very close to local amenities and public transport links. The room was spacious and very clean with a private bathroom.

JapanThis is my favourite hotel in Kyoto and I now stay here everytime I visit. This was my fourth stay and as always, I loved it! The hotel is located north of city centre in a quieter area. There are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants in the area. It takes about 30-40 minutes to walk to the city centre but there are bus stops just a few minutes walk from thte hotel so it is easy to get around. There is a subway station about 15 minute walk away too. I usually drive and there is free car parking at the hotel - just show your ticket when you check-out and they will make sure you can exit without paying. The staff don't speak much English but they are friendly and helpful. The hotel has a great onsen, both indoor and a lovely outdoor onsen set in a small garden. The hotel is right next to the river, and there is a private path from the hotel to the riverside. I usually just get breakfast when I stay, but I sometimes get dinner too. The dinner is kaiseki (traditional Japanese cuisine) and is delicious! It is a set menu that changes every night and consists of many small courses, including seafood, meat, vegetables, rice, and dessert. I would definitely recommend this as a great way to experience a kaiseki dinner at a reasonable price. You have to agree the time for dinner and breakfast when you check-in and must check-in before 7pm if you want dinner that night. Breakfast is also a set menu that changes and is mostly Japanese (one morning I had bacon and egg but the majority of it was Japanese). This is not a 'tourist' hotel and everytime I have stayed, I have been the only non-Japanese guest. I heartily recommend this hotel if you want a genuine Japanese experience and are looking for a quieter location out of the city centre.

MalaysiaI didn't like the fact that all the rooms' AC units followed a central AC so it was only blowing hot air during the cool spring season. And the reason I mention this is that lots of the rooms are facing the morning and afternoon sun so when you're out and the windows are closed, the room becomes an oven. And you don't have cold air from the AC to cool it down since it's controlled centrally.
Location was excellent! It's situated right next to Kamo River which was just so beautiful and there is a park that stretches alongside it. The ryokan itself is also very nicely done with a zen garden. The onsen was wonderful and well equipped. It had a hot spring feel to it. The kaiseki breakfast was top notch. Special mention goes to the milk which is really tasty. Room was great. It was big and spacious and the window view of the river and the trees just mesmerizes you.

United KingdomA lot of outdated info on the card given to people in English. I thought it was breakfast included but you had to pay extra for it (might have been my error). Not a comfortable bed or pillow. Tiny room, couldn't sit at the desk! The rooms are not soundproof, can hear people walking in the corridor.
I booked this place for the onsen and was not disappointed about it. The rest was okay. Clean and nice service, great sencha green tea bags in the room.

JapanThe bed was a little hard and the fridge in my room was noisy, but I still slept well and will be returning to KKR Kunisio when I next visit Kyoto.
I travelled by car and primarily chose KKR Kunisio because it has a free, off-street car park (car parking in Kyoto can be very expensive). The hotel staff allowed me to park before check-in as I had an earlier appointment in Kyoto - this was very helpful and very much appreciated. The hotel was perfectly located for me in the north-east part of Kyoto and is only a 10-15 minute walk to Kyoto Gyeon. The street near the hotel has many independent shops and restaurants and is pleasant to walk around. I think the location is great as it is only a 30 minute walk to Nijo Castle or Nishiki Market, but is a quiet area to stay in. The hotel is next to the river so perfect for walking or running, or simply relaxing and enjoying the quiet view. The hotel has a great onsen with an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor onsen is beautifully situated and was very relaxing. The onsen is open for a few hours in the morning and then from 12 noon to 12 midnight so it is great for relaxing in after a long day walking around Kyoto! The room and onsen had all the required amenities. I had a single room which was compact but had everything you needed. Air con and Wi-Fi worked well. Breakfast was at set times, either 7am or 8am, to space out guests for covid-safety. It was a delicious Japanese set meal - rice, miso soup, salad, various fish, egg, and vegetable dishes. There was self-serve tea, milk, and orange juice. Staff were helpful and friendly. Payment is made when you check-out so it can take some time if several guests check-out at the same time - give yourself extra time if you need to depart promptly. The hotel also has a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station but as I was driving I do not know the schedule. There is a shop in the hotel so you can buy Kyoto sweets, green tea, and other gifts/souvenirs conveniently. I really enjoyed staying at the KKR Kunisio and will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Kyoto.

SpainKyoto in general is a bit weirdly connected, so it was a bit far from where we wanted to go. But! There was a bus stop nearby so :)
Incredibly flexible and welcoming, installations were a dream, just like a real Japanese house. We had to leave a lot of trash that we accumulated previously and they took care of it with no issue at all. Also breakfast was an experience, although my favourite was the onsen, I laid there every night recovering from the day.

AustraliaThe rooms are quite tired and old. The rooms need refurbishment. The bed was very hard.
Location is a bit out of the way if you don’t have a car, but the bus system is excellent. The outdoor onsen is lovely. There is a laundry. Staff were very helpful. View from our room was very good looking onto the river.

AustraliaThe double room we had was so small that we only stayed one night not 4. We asked to change rooms and were told there were none. Fair enough we understood that so booked another hotel. Then the next day when we went to check out and move into our other hotel they all of a sudden found the perfect room for us. unfortunately it was too late as we had paid for the other hotel. it was a shame they didn’t take us more seriously and offer us that room when I asked to be moved, I was even prepared to pay extra. If you don’t get the shoe box it’s a great place to stay.
A very traditional Japanese Hotel, beautiful gardens on the river.

BulgariaThe staff was with very poor English, the furniture was 40+ years old , the service was terrible. The view was the neighbors terrace in hand distance...Check it not before 15:00 pm and check out no later than 10:00 in the morning... so 19 hours for 100 USD - this - 10 value for the money! Avoid this hotel at any other options! The room was 4,5 scuer metters!?!
Only the hot water in the onsen but not the onsen as facility.

JapanThis is the second time that I have stayed at the KKR Kyoto Kuniso and I was very happy once again with my stay here. This time was even better as I had been able to make use of a deal on the booking website that included breakfast and dinner. I was in a bigger room this time and it was very spacious for one person. Breakfast and dinner were set menus and both were absolutely delicious! Breakfast was a range of Western and Japanese dishes, with self-service drinks. Dinner was kaiseki; beautiful as well as delicious. The staff were helpful and kind as before, and once again allowed me to park my car (free for guests) prior to check-in so I could easily attend an apointment I had in town. The hotel is in the north of Kyoto and very convenient for me in terms of driving and parking, whilst also being in walking distance of central Kyoto (30 mins). As the hotel is located next to the river, it is easy and peaceful to walk along the river back to the hotel. The area is quiet with many shops, restaurants and convenience stores nearby. For me, the best thing about this hotel is the wonderful onsen which has both indoor and outdoor onsen. The outdoor onsen is in a lovely garden and you can hear the river on the other side of the fence, which adds to the relaxation. I will be staying here again the next time I visit Kyoto.

Japanperhaps a little overpriced given the size of the room and age of the facilities, particularly given the location. access is not great, not sure how useful this hotel would be as a base for sightseeing around Kyoto.
clean, if quite older-style room. wifi in the rooms was good. staff were courteous. river and riverside walking path mere minutes away which was nice.
