Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The staff were very kind to allow us to store luggage there when we arrived in the early morning which was a lot more beyond the check-in time. The staff were helpful and polite. The dinner and breakfast included in the room package were superb. Location is good, close to cafe, souvenior shops but not noisy.

Very accomodating, perfect location right on the river and across Kappa bridge, lovely amenities, and very thoughtful staff. They catered to our food allergies and cooked us a delicious spread of food - the meals were excellent and authentic. They also stored our luggage for free while we spent a couple nights hiking.

The location couldn't be better - right by the famous Kappabashi Bridge,The staff were incredibly helpful, not just with navigating the area but also with any dietary restrictions I mentioned. Breakfast and dinner were both incredible experiences - delicious, traditional Japanese meals that were absolutely mouthwatering.

United KingdomThis was the most luxurious place we stayed in japan. The dinner and breakfast were unbelievable - the other hotels we stayed at couldn't compare with the meals here. We were one pescetarian and one vegetarian (notified the hotel in advance) and were extremely impressed by the food. Beautiful location, we stayed in the room with the balcony which was glorious. Would have loved to stay longer

SingaporeThe washing machine need to be changed. There’s only one and I would had discarded if it’s in my home .
Was apprehensive when I booked the place. But I have no regrets. We stayed 3 nights. The surrounding is serene and a place to be if your purpose is to hike around here. A good get away from the hustling and bustling city. This is half board so there’s no worry about food. The breakfast and dinner were delicious and everyday it’s different varieties. You can choose Japanese or western breakfast. The room has no toilet or bathroom. It is outside the room (few cubicles) but was very clean.

SingaporeThe breakfast and dinner could be better. The path leading to the Ryokan is a little rough so I would advise visitors to carry a haversack instead of luggage.
It's a beautiful ryokan. We got a room facing the river. The view from the balcony was totally chill n relaxing! Love it. I would stay here again for the view.

AustraliaKamikochi is famous in Japan for its mountain vistas, hiking and lodges. Nishi-itoya is a landmark building located near the Kappabashi Bridge, an easy walk from the bus terminal. Its alpine architecture hides the fact that a comfortable Japanese ryokan lurks inside. The spacious rooms overlook the river with Japanese maples framing the view. Beautiful multi course meals are a great addition although not cheap. The changeable weather at Kamikochi meant we always had a cosy retreat to watch the weather play out around us.

Wonderful stay in a traditional ryokan. Very convenient location if you are hiking. There are several restaurants nearby. Views from the room were wonderful. Stay was quiet. I was surprised how quiet it was at night. The included breakfast and dinner were amazing, so much food. Were very accomodating to 1 vegetarian and 1 non-vegetarian in our party. At dinner you can also order beer/wine etc. There is a vending machine and water provided, as well as free tea and coffee in the lobby. No private bathrooms, the toilets are shared. Then there is a public shower/bath/sauna. There are instructions in the room on how to use the public bath if you have never used one before, but you can also just google it. All toiletries are also provided in the public bath, and there are hair dryers. Room includes a sink and a drying rack. Also in the room is a small TV. There were only a few outlets, so it was helpful to have a multiple USB plug. You get to choose from 2 dinner times, 18:00 or 18:30, and they set up your cots while you are at dinner. We visited in September and it was warm during the day so we left the screens open, but it got very cold at night. Bring layers if you can and are going a time of year where temperatures range as there is no central heat/air system. There was a heater in our room, but it was not plugged in for use. Overall had a wonderful stay. Check out is early, at 9:30am, but they will hold your luggage if needed. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Would definitely stay again!
