Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBreakfast a pit plain, toilet smells as the house is dated. Location close to the lift but far from the town center, so lack of dinner options.
Futon bed very comfortable, onsite Japanese onsen was set to perfect temperature, make a good recovery after a day on the slopes. Very good value considering the price.

AustraliaI enjoyed everything about this stay. The room was very cozy, and their was an onsen inside the guest house as well. The main thing I wanna point out is the service - Kadowaki-san was such a fantastic host, helping with gear rental, recommendations, and general inquiries. It was very nice to talk to as well and very efficient with Google Translator :D. I was in Japan for 2 weeks, and this was by ease the best place I stayed at. Will definitely be back to this place and highly recommend it.

United KingdomNothing, this property exceeded expectations.
Wonderful stay, host was very welcoming and accommodating and assisted with making bookings, getting lift tickets, and recommending where to eat. The breakfast at the property is exceptional value and the fresh fruit that was included was very welcome and delicious. The Onsen at the property was also very convenient, as was the robe provided. 15min walk into the centre of town, and 4 mins to the closest ski lift. I would recommend this property and stay again.

AustraliaSome may find the shared bathroom an issue, but I found it an easy over look.
The host and dinner were highlights. The proximity to the ski lift was amazing. In-house onsen was perfect after snowboarding all day.

The owner was so generous and helpful with his time. He picked us up from the bus and dropped us back when leaving. He was so kind and thoughtful, helping us with great restaurant options for our young family, giving us a lift to hire ski gear. We had a fabulous stay and can't rate everything highly enough. AustraliaKadowakikan was excellent value for money for a 4 night stay in Nozawa Onsen. The owner was extremely helpful with information and recommendations, plus discounted lift tickets. It was easily accessible to the quad lift to access the whole ski resort. The Japanese-style room was large, quiet and clean, with a safe for valuables, plus a beautiful view of the mountains. Thank you for a lovely stay

AustraliaThis was my second visit to Kadowakikan and Is my favorite ryokan in all of Japan! The hosts are lovely, very helpful and will do everything they can to make your visit perfect! They were even nice enough to meet me at the bus stop to take me up to the ryokan. The room I booked was a single and was a very generous size for one person with panoramic views of the town and mountains. Kadowakikan has a small but relaxing onsen in the basement which I used every day. The local public onsen around the corner is also excellent. There are many restaurants and bars, and several cafes within a few minutes walk. If you are skiing or boarding, the closest chair lift is a few minutes walk up the hill. As before, I can't wait to return again!

AustraliaNothing, such good value.
Such a beautiful location! Our second time staying here. The traditional Japanese rooms were comfortable and cozy but most of all you will be greeted by the best host you could ever ask for, such a wonderful man & really makes staying here a great experience. We had a 1 year old baby with us & we were made to feel so welcomed! The onsen is a bonus and perfect after a day on the slopes & the breakfast is the best value you will find in town.

United StatesThis is a definite yes! The owners are so helpful and welcoming. I was a bit uneasy with it being our first time to Japan, arriving late at night in the cold after a long travel from the U.S. The owner graciously picked us up at the bus stop and even dropped us at a restaurant that was still open so we could have a hot meal. We felt right at home and our accommodations were very comfortable. Lots of special touches such as a tea kettle and cookies in the room. Robes, towels and slippers included. The breakfast was quite good as well. Everything is very clean. We loved the location and the Onsen downstairs. Everyone was super nice, a great value, and we would definitely stay here again. Book it!

AustraliaNothing, I thought the property was great.
Host was terrific, really helpful and friendly. He showed us the best routes to take on the mountain, offered discounted ski lift tickets, suggested some great cafes and restaurants, and nearby public onsen. He even drove us to the bus stop at the end of our stay. Rooms are large traditional Japanese style futons with tatami floors and very clean. Location is also really great - it’s a short walk into town, and from there not far to the ski lifts. There’s a free shuttle as well nearby which will take you directly to the ski lifts if you don’t want to walk or have your gear.
