Amazing traditional stay. Good location! Felt like a really cool authentic experience. It was off season and I was basically the only tourist around and had the whole place to myself!

Best Place to Stay Going to Taraibune, Ship Site, and Shukunegi Village

I liked the personal touches in the house, from the hammock, to the kettle, to the coffee grinder, to the handpicked decors. Makes one feel at home. Compared to other "homestays" in Japan, although the structure of the house is old, the fresh paint and cleanliness make the house not feel dingy and not feel worn-out at all. I also enjoyed how the host, Yuko-san, has been so flexible with arrival and departure. She went an extra mile to understand our plans and itinerary, to help us determine our routes. She was extra kind enough to let me tag along her errand, so I could ride her car, going to a bus stop nearest Senkakuwan Bay. On the way, she passed by some sites on the way and stayed with me for a bit. I would have rated the house and the stay highly already even without this, but this one was extra kind of her. Of course, all other customers may not expect the same as she also has another work/other things to do, but I bet if she can, she would help her guests. I also enjoyed the nearby ToriSushi. A little expensive (comparable to a dine out in Tokyo), but it's fresh and handmade by a lovely hardworking old couple. And oh, the lovely Hirohiyama Cafe nearby. It's the best place to buy Sado Souvenirs and Sado-exclusive postcards.

Good enough for backpackers, basic and affordable

I don’t often stay in guesthouses, but after spending two nights at Iro, I can say that it is probably best suited for backpackers with low expectations. It is close to the ferry port, basic and affordable. And the owner speaks English. But there is no Wi-Fi, nor towels, nor microwave. The walls are thin, the floors squeaky, and the old clock downstairs strikes loudly every 30 minutes. So, depending on your sleeping habits and other guests, you may not be able to get a good rest. Also, it is a notably old house, and cleanliness in some areas leaves a lot to be desired.
