Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThere was nothing to not like. It would be expensive to get cabs places and you wouldn’t be able to walk to where you wanted to go but they have a shuttle that you must book which is honestly perfect. It was out of the way and peaceful.
The staff really looked after you. The onsens were exceptional. The breakfast and dinner were delightful as well.

United States of AmericaThe Japanese floor mattresses were too hard for us.
The hotel was very convenient to the Tsumago area with the complimentary shuttle. The onsen felt great after a day of hiking. Dinner and breakfast was in a private room for our group of 7.

United States of AmericaThere were room fresheners deployed in the main lobby area. My partner is allergic to air fresheners. We asked that they be turned off and they were temporarily. No one should use air fresheners. They are toxic
Ample and interesting.

United States of AmericaHorse intestines and horse meat as part of the dinner and breakfast menu. I requested not to have those items before arrival but they still were served. They did accommodate my wife with a vegetarian meal. Also, no coffee served in the morning. Instead, you could go to lounge area and bring it back to your table or drink afterwards.
Great onsen outdoors after walking on nakasendo trail. Kieseiki meal for dinner and breakfast. Really feel like you are away from it all in the mountains. Great to have a 20 minute shuttle from Tsumago.

This was a fantastic family experience in very authentic and classy Japanese ryokan. I loved the private onsen. The staff were all professional and exceptionally welcoming. The food was amazing.

United KingdomWe arrived off the hotel minibus with a lot of other guests, and we were left a long time to be welcomed and checked in, despite the fact that we were the only guests with a very young child. This was disappointing, especially as the staff didn’t seem to be moving very quickly.
The onsen was amazing, and the dinner was a real highlight of our trip (even the bits we weren’t so sure about eating!) the whole experience was wonderful.

JapanJust good to know... the location is kind of remote but adds to the gorgeous atmosphere. Sometimes googles maps takes you the long weird way through the forest which can be interesting at night :)
Lovely staff and gorgeous, typically Japanese hotel with wonderful views and atmosphere. We didn't eat but we should have as the dining looked amazing when we walked past! One of the nicest onsens I've had in a long time (and I've had many!).

SwitzerlandFood was lovely, but dinner could have been better. Hotel in General is already a bit aged and needs fresh up, however the rooms looked very pleasing and cozy (stayed in western room).
Comfortable rooms well equipped with all needed. Wonderful public hot bath in the forest, you have it all for yourself early morning and later in evening - great experience. Secluded location of hotel tucked away from roadside.

AustraliaEverything was perfect.
A beautiful luxury hotel set in forest outside Tsumago, with hotel shuttle bus access. Everything was perfect- from the warm welcome, being conducted to our room, shown the onsen and dining room, where breakfast and dinner were exceptional (in Keisei style and well worth the additional charge). It was a most relaxing stay after our Magome to Tsumago walk- 6 hours in drenching rain- but still very beautiful to be again on this marvellous walk.

United KingdomThe breakfast was absolutely wonderful with a mix of interesting and tasty food. It looked beautiful too. The onsen was amazing with wonderful facilities. We particularly enjoyed the outside onsen in the early morning. We paid for an evening meal( there was nowhere else to go anyway) and it was wonderful. Such interesting and beautifully presented food. Our waiter explained what everything was.

NetherlandsIt was a feast. Nothing to complaint/ remark
The relaxedness of this Ryokan is simply stunning. It was my second time in 8 years that I visited this beautiful location, this time with my spouse. The room was huge, we had a massage seat that was all part of the package and dinner and breakfast were delicious. The onsens were superior and the attention of the staff was superb. Over the years the level of English of staff members increased significantly even when google translate always works in case of emergency.

MexicoThere could be more shuttle times available in order to make it easier for different modes of travel. It should also be easier to contact the staff in off hours as well, as sometimes the desk was empty.
The meals were amazing, we deeply enjoyed the multicourde menu that was provided each time. The onsen, location and overall hotel were also amazing and deeply relaxing.
